In pasture, 205m E of townland boundary with Ballinlyna Lower. An enclosure (LI048-108----) lies 135m to the NW. Annotated ‘Rathaboirra’ on the historic OSi maps. Depicted on the 1840 ed. OSi 6-inch sheet as a raised circular-shaped platform defined by a scarp. Shown on the 1897 OSi 25-inch map as a raised sub-circular shaped platform (diam. c. 19m) defined by a steep scarp. Monument visible as a raised circular-shaped platform defined by a scarp with fosse and possibly two levelled banks with intervening fosse truncated at N by a relic post-1700 field boundary running E-W, on Digital Globe orthoimage taken between 2011-13. - LI048-110 Standing stone
Description
The stone is set in a slight hollow in low-lying grassland, where the ground slopes westwards to a wet marshy area located c. 10m away. The flat faces of the stone are orientated northwest-southeast and it measures 1.2m - 1.3m high, 0.7m - 0.9m wide and 0.35m - 0.4m deep. Description
The northernmost of the three pits [LI048-111001-, LI048-111002-, LI048-112----] is an irregular shaped pit exposed in both faces of the drain and lying 0.32m below the existing ground surface. The pit measures 1.30m northwest-southeast by 0.8m and 0.26m deep. It is filled with black, charcoal stained soil that has regular inclusions of burnt stone. Description
Located 0.9m to the southeast [of LI048-111001-] is a small pit/area of burning identified in the eastern section face of the drain. It comprises a spread of orange burnt soil overlying charcoal lying 0.26m below present ground level and measuring 0.47m in diameter and 0.13m deep. Description
The third pit [see LI048-111001-,LI048-111002-] is visible in both faces of the drain, but the base of the feature was not exposed. The pit lies 0.32m below present ground and measures 2.4m in diameter and 0.18m deep. It has a charcoal-rich fill with frequent inclusions of burnt stone (sandstone and conglomerate pieces noticeably smaller than the stones within the fill of the irregular-shaped pit located to the west [LI048-111001-]). Description
Detached four-bay single-storey lobby entry thatched house, built c. 1800, having lean-to extensions to rear. Hipped roof with thatch to front and corrugated-iron to rear (south-west) elevation. Rendered chimneystack. Roughcast rendered walls having render eaves and plinth courses. Square-headed openings having render surrounds, limestone sills and two-over-two pane timber sliding sash windows. Square-headed opening having rendered surround and timber panelled double-leaf doors. Pair of square-profile rendered piers with single-leaf cast-iron gate. Roughcast rendered boundary walls to site.
