• ME002-045 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Located towards the top of the SSE-facing spine of a N-S ridge. In 1969 this was a circular grass and scrub-covered area (diam. 34m NNW-SSE; 32m NE-SW) defined by a wide and overgrown earthen bank (Wth of base 7.5-10.8m; int. H 0.8m at SW to 2.2m at NE; ext. H 2.5-2.9m) separated by an outer fosse (Wth of base 1.5-2.7m; ext. D 0.6m at SW to 1.4m at NE) from an outer bank (at SW: Wth of base 4m; ext. H 0.5m) that was incorporated into a field bank (Wth of base 2.7m; int. H 1.4m; ext. H 0.5m) N-E. The entrance (Wth of base 1.5m) was at SE where the fosse was less pronounced. The visible monument had been removed by 1995 (OSAP). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Meath' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1987).
