Recorded monuments
- GA104-152 Ringfort - rath
Description
In grassland. Classified by McCaffrey (1952, 233, no. 38) as an ‘Earthen fort’ (diam. c. 48.7m) of which only a trace survived. While the rath has been leveled, the outline of its bank is visible all round and some possible stone revetting is evident at E. A field wall cuts across the monument a N and SE. A souterrrain (GA104-152001-) is associated. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 9 January 2018
- GA104-152001 Souterrain
Description
Within the interior of a rath (GA104-152----). McCaffrey (1952, 223, no. 380) recorded that this souterrain was blocked up. On an inspection in March 1971 the mouth of it was visible in the N sector of the interior. It was partly blocked and was inaccessible (SMR file). When re-inspected in October 2001 no visible surface trace could be seen. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 9 January 2018
- GA104-153 House - indeterminate date

- GA104-154 Burial mound
Description
On the crest of a low ridge in pastureland. Known locally as ‘Leaba Nora’ (McCaffrey 1952, 10, 233), this much-denuded and poorly preserved mound (12.2m E-W; 9.4m N-S; H 1.4m at W; 0.3m at E) is overlain at S by a NE-SW running field wall. It may have extended into the field to the S but that field has been reclaimed and no visible surface trace is evident. The E half of the mound is very denuded and low; one possible outer revetting stone projects from the sod cover at NE. The W half is better preserved because the side stones of the W side of a N-S running passage through the centre of the mound revet it. The passage is defined by three very large boulders and one small one, all roughly dressed. It ends at a backstone at S. The modern field wall runs over this stone. There is no trace of the corresponding E side of the passage. A house site (GA104-153----) lies c. 35m to the NE. (McCaffrey 1956, 190; Killanin and Duignan 1967, 190) Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 13 November 2019
- GA104-155 Standing stone
Description
On a rise in grassland. This standing stone consists of a limestone slab (H 1.3m; base Wth 0.53m; Wth at top 0.32m) that is rectangular in plan and aligned N-S. It is currently used as a support for an electric fence. (McCaffrey 1952, 233, no. 72) Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 17 December 2019
- GA104-156 Ringfort - rath
Description
In level pastureland. Classified by McCaffrey (1952, 233, no. 38a) as a circular ‘Earthen fort’ (diam. c. 39m) defined by a bank, which apart from a section at W, had been almost completely levelled. It is now defined by a scarp (H 0.7-0.8m) and is subcircular in plan (33m N-S; 31m E-W). Its outline is clearly visible on the OSi digitalglobe aerial photography. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 2 April 2019
- GA104-157 Ringfort - rath
Description
On a drumlin in flat pastureland. Marked on the 1838 edition of the OS 6-inch map as a circular enclosure (diam. c. 35m). McCaffrey (1952, 232, no. 33) recorded that it was 'Not present' during his survey of the area. Due to extensive quarrying, no visible surface trace survives. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 26 July 2019
