  Description

  An irregular spread of mixed brushwood and roundwoods (L 2.8m; Wth 1.1m; D 0.15m) with no clear orientation or structure on the field surface. A metal-cut toolmark was recorded. The wood is set in well-humified fen peat. Recorded by the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College, Dublin) in 1997. The evidence is not sufficient to warrant its acceptance as the remains of an archaeological monument.   Description

  The site (Wth 1.8m; D 0.15m) consists of two large roundwoods, two pieces of heavy brushwood and a peg in opposing drain faces. The horizontal elements are closely spaced and are orientated NW-SE, with the peg located 0.46m to their W. The elements have two metal-cut toolmarks evident.   A roundwood (L 0.5m; diam. 0.12m) in the drain face within Phragmites peat. It is unclear if the roundwood is of archaeological significance.   Description

  The site (Wth 1.47m; D 0.43m) is a compact but uneven structure of mixed brushwood and roundwoods in opposing drain faces. The wood is orientated N-S, with a few perpendicular fragments on the E side of the drain face. There is also a large trunk and some woodchips set within this material. Wood species include Pyrus/Malus, alder, ash, elm, oak and holly. It is located 1.1m above subsoil within moderately humified Sphagnum peat which contains ericaceous roots and Phragmites. The site has been radiocarbon-dated to 1255-836 cal. BC (Beta 118039). The site is located 4.5m N of SMR OF015-493----. Compiled by: Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College Dublin).   Description

  The site (Wth 1.48m; D 0.27m) consists of brushwood and three roundwoods in opposing drain faces. The lighter brushwood is located on the W side of the deposit with some heavier pieces and roundwoods on the E side. A single toolmark was recorded. Wood species include alder, Pyrus/Malus, oak, ash, holly and hazel. The site is located 0.86m above subsoil in moderately humified Phragmites peat containing unidentified roots and natural wood above the site. The site is located 4.5m S of SMR OF015-492----.   Description

  A sparse deposit (Wth 1.12m; D 0.13m) of three pieces of brushwood and two roundwoods in the drain face. The site is situated 1.4m above subsoil, within fen peat. The site occurs in an area of natural wood horizons and its archaeological significance is unclear. Recorded by the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College, Dublin) in 1997. The evidence is not sufficient to warrant its acceptance as the remains of an archaeological monument.   Description

  Single-arch masonry canal bridge, c.1802, carrying an accommodation track over the Grand Canal. Roughly dressed limestone blocks. Arch of semi-elliptical profile with dressed limestone voussoirs. Continuous string course across face to terminal piers. Parapets of lime rendered squared random rubble. Blank plaques on outer faces of the parapets. Humped deck with ramped approaches.
