Description
Detached thirteen-bay single- and two-storey railway station, opened 1853, comprising three-bay two-storey central block and five-bay single-storey lateral wing to west. Five-bay single-storey recessed later wing to east with single-bay single-storey projecting end bay to east having glazed lantern to apex. Pitched timber canopy over platform and line to rear elevation to north, supported to north by freestanding section of open arcaded wall. West wing extended to south, c. 1890, comprising four-bay single-storey glazed projecting entrance block with cantilevered canopy over entrance. Pitched and hipped slate roof with lead-ridge rolls, ashlar chimneystacks, mineral felt added to booking hall roof and projecting canopy on timber brackets. Snecked limestone walls with ashlar string courses, moulded bands, raised rusticated quoins and timber cornice, partly coved by later fascia board. Swept-arched openings with raised limestone lugged surrounds, keystones, limestone sills and timber six-over-six pane sliding sash windows. Timber glazed panels to booking office. Retaining interior features. Platform covered by open-truss roof with decorative joint covers. Attached two-bay single-storey outbuilding, built c. 1855, to east retaining original aspect. Wall-mounted cast-iron letter box, c. 1905, with inscribed “ER VII” monogram. Detached three-bay two-storey former station master’s house, built c. 1855, to east with three-bay single-storey flat-roofed projecting porch to right ground floor, tripartite window opening over, moulded architraves to openings, single-bay two-storey side elevations and three-bay single-storey flat-roofed return to rear to north with pilasters and modillioned cornice. Detached three-bay single-storey limestone ashlar outbuilding, built c. 1855, to east, possibly originally water tower with moulded cornice and rubble stone-built side elevations, now disused. Freestanding three-bay single-storey over raised base signal box, built c. 1855, to east with single-bay side elevations.

Description
Detached seven-bay three-storey over part-raised basement neo-Classical former railway hotel, opened 1854, originally on a symmetrical plan with single-bay three-storey breakfront having single-storey prostyle tetrastyle Doric portico approached by flight of steps and flanked by single-bay three-storey advanced end bays. Designed by Frederick Darley. Now in use as hotel. Seven-bay three-storey side elevations to east and to west. Seven-bay three-storey rear elevation to south having single-storey bowed projecting bay to centre and single-bay three-storey advanced end bays. Extended to east, c. 1930, comprising nine-bay three-storey wing with pair of single-bay four-storey recessed bays. Renovated, refenestrated and extended to east in late twentieth century, comprising nine-bay three-storey wing at right angles with single-bay single-storey conservatory added to west side elevation. Pitched and hipped slate roof with rendered chimneystacks, cast-iron gutters, downpipes, hoppers, and profiled gutters to wings on limestone bracketed cornice. Rendered walls with raised render quoins, granite cornice, limestone blocking course, random rubble green limestone to basement with pale limestone quoins. Limestone sills with composite lugged architraves and replacement uPVC windows. Granite window cases to entrance bay with pilasters and entablatures. Retaining interior features.

Description
Freestanding single-storey Gothic Revival style single-cell Methodist church, built c. 1910, designed by G.F. Beckett. Comprising four-bay nave, single-bay single-storey gabled projecting porch to north-west, single-bay single-storey gabled vestry projection to north-east, single-bay full-height part-engaged corner turret to north-west on a polygonal plan with buttresses and having limestone ashlar polygonal spire. Pitched slate roof with clay ridge tiles, gable limestone copings, lead-clad ridge vent, profiled cast-iron gutters and downpipes with decorative fixings. Random squared limestone walls with cement ribbon repointing, limestone ashlar, buttresses and engaged turret. Lancets with limestone ashlar surrounds, red brick relieving arches which project where they meet with eaves band and leaded glass panels. Triple lancet west window with trefoil heads and hood mouldings. Timber double-leaf door. Gateway, built c. 1910, to north-west comprising pair of channelled piers with decorative wrought-iron gates.
