  Description

  There are no visible remains of the circular burial ground (diam. c. 50m) which is indicated on the 1846 OS 6-inch map by a dotted line and is named '(site of) Killarney Burial Ground'.   Description

  On top of a marble stand, in the SW corner of the porch of the 19th-century Friary church in Killarney. The stoup is heptagonal in plan and rectangular in elevation. There is a shallow depression in the centre of the upper surface. The rim of the stoup is worn. In correspondence with Leask (OPW), Capt. D. B. O'Connell (SMR file) wrote of receiving the stoup from a lady in Killarney in 1937. It had been removed by family members from Innisfallen Island (KE066-072----) when work was being carried out there in the 1890s. It was recorded by O'Connell as being '8" in height x 7" in width' with the depression '3" in diameter x 4" in depth'. Its record number at its original location is KE066-072003-.   Description

  On the N outskirts of Killarney. A two-storey building in modern use as a community centre. The front elevation (N-facing) is of three bays (slightly altered) with a deep one-bay hipped projection at each end. One-bay gabled additions prolong front elevation, further extensive additions to rear. Abandoned one-storey dispensary at entrance gate to N. Lewis (1837, vol. 2, 128) noted that the hospital 'is adapted to the reception of 50 patients, and has a ward attached to it for surgical cases...'.   Description

  Detached three-bay single-storey house with dormer attic, built c. 1860, now disused and partly derelict. Pitched roof slate roofs with mineral felt coating, cast-iron rooflight and rendered chimneystacks. Painted rendered walls. Lower leaf of timber boarded half-door remains. Two-over-two pane timber sliding sash window, no sill. Attached single-bay single-storey outbuilding along rear elevation to west with corrugated-iron roof, now derelict.

  Description

  Detached three-bay single-storey house with dormer attic, built c. 1860, attached three-bay single-storey rubble stone-built range with dormer attic to north possibly incorporating fabric of former house. Now disused. Pitched slate roof covered by later bituminous coal with rendered chimneystacks and galvanised steel gutter. Random rubble stone walls having multiple layers of lime wash, projecting eaves course on slate bed, north east corner incorporates square pier with slate capping. Rendered timber lintels and no sills to openings. Timber sliding sash window to right opening, four-pane fixed light to left and timber half door.

  Description

  Detached nine-bay two- and three-storey Gothic Revival style friary with dormer attic, built 1867, on a quadrangular plan about a cloister. Designed by J.J. McCarthy. Comprising four-bay two-storey central block, single-bay two-storey gabled flanking bay with dormer attic to right and three-bay three-storey gabled advanced entrance end bay with dormer attic to left. Ten-bay three-storey side elevation to west. Attached single-bay double-height gable-fronted limestone-built Gothic Revival style chapel, dated 1887, to right completing quadrangular plan. Chapel comprising ten-bay double-height nave elevation to east with single-bay single-storey gabled projecting porch to centre, stepped buttresses and single-bay four-stage bell tower to west elevation on a square plan having open belfry to fourth stage with pyramidal roof over. Chapel renovated internally, c. 1910. Pitched slate roof with rendered chimneystacks, clay ridge tiles, gabled parapets on coved springers and cross finials. Random rubble green limestone walls with grey limestone quoins and eaves course. Paired lancets with limestone ashlar surrounds and sills. Limestone relieving arches. Timber two-over-one pane sliding sash windows, some replaced in uPVC. Five-lancet west window to chapel. Pointed arched doorway to church with hood moulding. Compartmented vaulted ceiling to chapel interior having coved cornice with stencilling. West gallery. Highly decorated chancel with mosaic-tiling dated 1917. Elaborate Gothic Revival reredos incorporating life-size statues. Chancel re-ordered. Burial ground to site with various cast-iron Celtic Cross style grave markers, c. 1890-present. Gateway, built c. 1890, to south comprising group of limestone ashlar Gothic Revival style piers with cast-iron gates and railings.
