Description
Situated on a SW-facing slope of rising ground in an upland area with nearby ringforts to the S (TN026-016) and SE (TN026-018). A raised circular area (diam. 27.5m NE-SW; 31m NW-SE) enclosed by an earth and stone bank (Wth 2-4.5m; int. H 0.3-1m; ext. H 2.5m) with an external fosse (Wth 2.3m; D 1m) best preserved at W. Possible entrance gap (Wth 2m) at NE. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. - TN026-016 Ringfort - rath
Description
Situated on a SW slope of rising ground in an upland area with ringforts to the N (TN026-015) and SE (TN026-019, TN026-026, TN026-027). A raised circular area (diam. 45m) enclosed by two earth and stone banks with intervening fosse (Wth 3.2-5m; D 2m). The inner bank (Wth 3m; int. H 1.7m; ext. H 3m) is the best preserved while the external bank (Wth 2.5m; int. H 1-2.5m; ext. H 1-2m) is now utilised as a field boundary. Entrance gap (Wth 2.5m) at SSE. - TN026-018 Ringfort - rath
Description
Situated on a NW-facing slope of rising ground in an upland area. An impressive trivallate ringfort consisting of a raised circular area (diam. 24m E-W) enclosed by three earth and stone banks with intervening fosses. The inner bank (Wth 2.1m; int. H 0.7m; ext. H 3m) is well preserved with a wide, flat-bottomed fosse (Wth 4.3m; D 2m). The middle bank (Wth 3.9m; ext. H 1.8m) and fosse (Wth 2.1m) are also well preserved. The external bank (Wth 1.55m; int. H 0.95m; ext. H 0.75m) is the least well preserved being planted with hazel scrub. Causewayed entrance (Wth 1.8m) at S. A modern road intersects the inner bank at N destroying the outer defences of the ringfort from N to E. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Description
Situated on an E-facing slope of rising ground in an upland area with ringforts to the NW (TN026-016) and S (TN026-026,TN026-027). A slightly raised circular area (diam. approx. 23m) covered in dense scrub enclosed by a poorly preserved bank (Wth 2m; int. H 1m; ext. H 1m) reduced to a scarp at E and quarried in places. Situated on natural rock outcrop in an upland area with a ringfort (TN026-027) immediately to the S. The present remains consist of a circular area (diam. 35m E-W) enclosed by an earth and stone bank (Wth 2.2m; int. H 0.5m; ext. H 1-2m), intervening fosse (Wth 2m) and external bank (wth 2.5m; int.
