• MO022-001 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Located at the S-facing crest of one of the summits of a NE-SW drumlin ridge. It is depicted only on the 1907 edition of the OS 6-inch map as a D-shaped feature defined by field banks. This is a circular grass-covered area (diam. 42m; N-S; 39m E-W) defined by an earthen bank and hedge (Wth c. 2m; int. H c. 0.6m; ext. H c. 1.2m) with an outer drain (Wth c. 1.2m; D 0.6m) NW-E-SE and by a slight scarp elsewhere. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986).   Description

  Two-arch rubble limestone bridge, built c.1800, carrying road over Bunnoe River. Rubble stone walls and parapet walls. Round arches with dressed voussoirs, cut-stone V-cutwater to north face. Rubble stone soffits with some remaining render.
