Recorded monuments
- MO027-070 Ringfort - rath
Description
Located towards the top of the N-facing slope of the spine of a N-S drumlin ridge. This is a D-shaped grass-covered area (dims 32.6m N-S; 20.4m E-W) that slopes down to the N (H 2.8m) defined by a grass-covered earthen bank that incorporates an E-W field bank on its outer edge (Wth of base 6m; int. H 1.2m; ext. H 1m) SSE-SW, but the perimeter is reduced to a scarp (at W: Wth 2.1m; H 1.8m; at N: H 1.2m) SSW-W-NNE. The monument is truncated at E (L 21.1m) by a N-S field bank and hedge. The original entrance is not identified, and was probably on the E side. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Revised by: Michael Moore Date of revision: 31 January 2018
- MO027-071 Ringfort - rath
Description
Located on the summit of a drumlin. A circular embanked enclosure (ext. diam. c. 45m) is depicted on the 1834 edition of the OS 6-inch map where it is described in gothic lettering as a ‘fort’, but by the 1907 edition it was reduced to a curve in a field bank NNE-E-S (diam. c. 45m). It was still extant in 1967 as a curved scarp (at E: Wth 4.3m; H 0.7m) extending NE-E-SW (diam. 40m NE-SW). A NNE-SSW field bank had been built across it by 1995 (OSAP), meeting a NW-SE bank at the S. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Revised by: Michael Moore Date of revision: 31 January 2018

Description
Located towards the E end of an E-W drumlin ridge. This was described in 1967 as a D-shaped area (dims 31m NNE-SSW; c. 19m WNW-ESE) defined by an earthen bank (at N: Wth 2.9m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 1.3m) SSW-W-NE, but it was cut by a N-S field bank at E and an E-W field bank at S and did not survive beyond these features. There was no visible fosse and the only entrance was a gap (Wth 3m) at SW. An oval quarry (dims 10.1m NW-SE; 2m NE-SW; max. D 0.8m) extended from the centre through the perimeter at NW. This surviving part was removed in 1996 (SMR file). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of revision: 31 January 2018
