- TS050-005 Mound
Description
On top of a low natural hillock in wet marshy terrain in a mountainous region. A natural elongated mound which appears to have been scarped and flattened on top to form a low mound (dims. 23m N-S; 13m E-W; H 0.5-0.7m) of natural appearance which is very heavily overgrown with thorn bushes. The base of the mound is intersected by a field boundary at N on a NE-SW axis. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 26 August 2011
- TS050-006 Ringfort - rath
Description
On top of the SW end of a NE-SW ridge, utilising the natural fall of the ridge on the S side as a natural defensive feature. Situated in poorly drained land with a fulacht fiadh (TS050-023----) c. 80m to the NE. A slightly raised circular area (int. diam. 29m N-S; 29.1m E-W) enclosed by a poorly preserved earth and stone bank (top Wth 3.6m; base Wth 6.8m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 1.9m), fosse (Wth 2.2m; ext. D 1m) and external bank (top Wth 2m; base Wth 3.8m; ext. H 0.3m) visible from SSW through W to N only. From NE through E to SSW the interior is defined by a scarp (ext. H 0.9m) and outer berm (Wth 5.8m) with no evidence of an enclosing fosse or external bank. This could be due to the natural defensiveness of the ridge on this side. There is a possible entrance gap (Wth 2.8m) in the bank at the S. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 26 August 2011
- TS050-023 Fulacht fia
Description
On poorly drained marshy terrain with a stream to the E and a ringfort (TS050-006----) c. 80m to the SW. A roughly semi-circular-shaped mound (overall dims. 10.7m NNE-SSW; 14.7m SE-NW) of burnt material with a central depression (dims. 2.7m SE-NW; 3.1m NNE-SSW; D 0.5m) which was waterlogged at time of inspection indicating a possible trough area. A gap (Wth 2.5m) opens to the SW. The NNE sector of the mound appears to be reduced in height and may have been partially levelled. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 26 August 2011
