- GA095-103 Ringfort - rath
Description
On a prominent ridge in rough pastureland. This irregularly shaped rath (c. 72.5m NW-SE; c. 45m NE-SW), in fair condition, is defined by a bank and external fosse. Several gaps in the bank appear to be modern. A field wall cuts across the monument at NW and S. A souterrain (GA095-103001-) lies in the NE quadrant of the interior. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 14 December 2017
- GA095-103001 Souterrain
Description
In the NE quadrant of a rath (GA095-103----). This partially collapsed drystone-built souterrain (L >30m) consists of three chambers linked by two creeps that form a zig-zag arrangement on plan. Access is gained at three points, through gaps between the roof lintels of each chamber. The 1st chamber (L 6.7m) runs NNE-SSW. Only its NNE end (L 2.7m; Wth 1.6m; H 1.25m) remains intact. A blocked-up creep at the N end of the ESE wall would have accessed the 2nd chamber (L c. 8m; Wth 1.6m; H 1.55m), which runs WNW-ESE. A drop-hole creep (L .55m; Wht 0.7m; H 0.7m) extends off the S end of its ENE wall and leads to the 3rd chamber which runs ENE-WSW. Only the extreme SW end (L c. 2m) of this chamber is intact. A small wall recess is evident in the ESE wall close to its S end. A linear depression (L c. 10.2m; Wth 2.7m; D 0.8m) indicates that this chamber continued further to the ENE; the tops of the side walls of the chamber are evident in the sides of the depression. (Athy 1914, 133; McCaffrey 1952, 139, no. 7) Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 14 December 2017
- GA095-104 Souterrain
Description
On a SE-facing slope in grassland, c. 150m to the SW of a rath (GA095-103----). A hand-written note, 'souterrain (?)', on the 1920 edition of the OS 6-inch map in the Department of Archaeology, NUIG indicates the presence of a possible souterrain at this location. On inspection in December 1982 no visible surface trace of it was evident. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 11 October 2019

- GA095-106 Barrow - mound barrow
Description
On a rise in flat marshland. Described by McCaffrey (1952, 20, 139, no. 8a) as 'the remains of a tumulus' that may have belonged to the barrow class of monuments. It comprised an almost circular mound ‘58 feet by 55 feet ... maximum height of 4 feet 6 inches [17.6m by 16.7m; H 1.4m]’ with kerb consisting of ‘a simple ring of limestone slabs placed on edge’. No visible surface trace survives. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 14 November 2019
- GA095-107 Enclosure - large enclosure
Description
In gently undulating pastureland, overlooking marshland to the S. This large subcircular enclosure (N-S c. 105m int.), in fair condition, is defined by a low earthen bank and an external fosse. Modern field walls overlie the bank from SE through S to NW. A causewayed entrance gap (Wth 2.9m) at SSE may be original. A small field-clearance cairn is visible in the SW quadrant of the interior. There is a low mound of earth and stone to its S but its function is unclear. A NNW-SSE running field boundary cuts across the monument at N and ESE. A house site (GA095-109----) lies c. 25m to the S. (Lynch Athy 1914, 138) Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 27 August 2019
