- GA061-094 Ringfort - rath
Description
On N-facing slope of a hillock. On inspection in February 1985, this poorly preserved subcircular rath (E-W c. 35m, N-S c. 30m) was defined by a degraded scarp from SW through N to NE. No visible surface trace survived elsewhere. A field bank curved around the monument from NE to SW. The interior was densely overgrown. Description
On level ground. Marked on 3rd ed. of OS 6-inch map (1915) as a subcircular enclosure (N-S c. 36m, E-W c. 32m). The monument was levelled in 1981, according to local information, and all that survives is a very faint scarp from SW through N to SE. A CBG (GA061-096001-) is associated. Description
Detached four-bay two-storey house, built c.1760, having two-bay return elevations. Hipped slate roof with dressed stone chimneystacks. Rendered walls. Square-headed window openings with six-over-six pane timber sliding sash windows with limestone sills. Elliptical-headed entrance having cut limestone doorcase comprising pilasters, lintel and cornice, with carved timber panelled door and cobweb fanlight. Set within own grounds, with outbuildings to north.
