• TS060-043001 Enclosure
  Description

  In pasture, on a low rise. Barely traceable remains of sub-oval enclosure (dims. c. 70m N-S; c. 50m E-W) defined by short arc of bank (overall Wth 4.55m; Wth at top 2.0m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 0.6m) at NW which is reduced to scarp (Wth 3.0m; H 0.5m) NNW-N. Arc (dims. C 22m; 12m NNW-SSE) formed by bank and scarp are incorporated into field boundary NW-N. Scarp has been levelled outwards forming a long gradual slope E-SW which is completely levelled SW-NW. Interior is on a low rise and monument is incorporated into field as pasture. Within the enclosure there are references to a church (TS060-043002-) and other earthworks, possibly building foundations (TS060-043003-) which are not visible at ground level. • TS060-043003 Building
  Description

  Within a large enclosure (TS060-043001-). Cahill (1982) describes it as 'Extensive remains of a large stone and earthen enclosure. Foundations of stone church; also other buildings and internal subdivisions traceable. Site completely overgrown'. There is no evidence to suggest that there was a church within the enclosure, Cahill's reference is confused with the church in Ballinamona townland (TS060-064003-). However, Cahill's description does suggest that a number of building foundations were apparent when the monument was visited in the early 1980s. According to local information some levelling took place at this monument subsequently. There are now no building foundations visible at ground level. • TS060-044 Castle - tower house
  Description

  On flat level ground in the farmyard behind a derelict single-storey farmhouse. In the Civil Survey (1654-6) this is described as 'one small destroyed castle repaireable' under the proprietorship in 1640 of 'Edmond Dwyer of Mores-towne Irish Papist' (Simington 1934, vol. 2, 91). It is depicted on the 1st (1840-41) ed. OS 6-inch map as a circular building, but by the late 19th century all that survived was 'a little bit of wall which forms part of the out offices, attached to the residence' (Davis White 1892, 54). However, Davis White (1892, 54) recorded that in living memory of the then owner 'the Castle was several stories high, and that it was round … The under part had been used as a cow house in his younger days'. There is now no trace of the castle above ground but it is likely that it was a late 16th-century tower house, similar to other circular tower houses in the area. • TS060-045 Enclosure
  Description

  In poorly drained, generally level pasture. Circular area (diam. 19m) defined by remains of poorly preserved scarp (Wth 0.75m; H 0.5m) which has been levelled out around E-arc. Remains of fosse (overall Wth 3.9m; basal Wth 2.45m; D 0.18-0.28m) seen SE-WNW and obscured by briars and vegetation WNW-NE. Fosse backfilled around E-arc. Possible levelled remains of outer bank (overall Wth 10.2m; Wth at top 6m; int. H 0.18m; ext. H 0.35m) intermittent ESE-NE. Interior is sloping down gently to E and is partially obscured by growth. • TS060-134 Enclosure
  Description

  In poorly drained, generally level pasture. Monument identified on an aerial photograph (ASIAP (312)26 13/09/02). Enclosure (TS060-045----) is c. 34m to W. Sub-circular area (dims. 18m NNW-SSE; 16m ENE-WSW) defined by scarp (Wth 1.5m; H 0.45m) which has been straightened across WSW-sector due to linear drain on this side and also along N-sector, where fosse re-cut as drain. Possible entrance (overall Wth 5.5m; basal Wth 3m) at SE where it is cut into interior ground level and covered in yellow flags. Fosse (overall Wth 5.1m; basal Wth 2.5m; D 0.2m) is best preserved NE-ESE and possibly at SW where it appears unmodified. Fosse traceable ESE-SW and straightened and backfilled across WSW-sector and straightened and re-cut across N-sector. Fosse obscured NW-N by dense briars encroaching onto scarp.   Description

  Detached four-bay two-storey house, built c. 1870, with dormer attic and having porch to front elevation and single-storey lean-to felt-roofed extension to rear. Pitched slate roof with rendered chimneystacks. Roughcast rendered walls. Square-headed openings with replacement uPVC windows and concrete sills. Timber bargeboards to dormer windows. Projecting porch with square-headed timber panelled door. Multiple-bay single-storey outbuildings to site mainly with pitched slate roofs and roughcast rendered rubble limestone walls. Rendered piers with decorative double-leaf cast-iron gates to road entrance and rendered piers and cast-iron railings to front garden of house.
