Bord na Móna Powergen Ltd., intend to apply for permission for proposed minor temporary and permanent works to facilitate the delivery of turbine components to the permitted Oweninny Wind Farm Phase 3 (Ref. PA16.316178). The Turbine Delivery Route (TDR) will originate at the port of entry at Killybegs Harbour, Co. Donegal, runs through Co. Sligo, Co. Leitrim and terminate at the consented Oweninny Wind Farm Phase 3 site, Co. Mayo. The total length of the TDR is c.188km of which c.65km is within Co. Donegal, c.57km in Co. Sligo, and c.36km in Co. Mayo. Minor temporary and permanent works are not proposed along this entire route but only at select locations. The total area of the works proposed in Co. Sligo is 0.49 Hectares (Ha). The proposed development within the Sligo County bounds comprises both temporary and permanent works located in the townlands of Carrownacreevy, Tanrego West, Abbeytown, Corhawnagh and Carricknagat. The works are required to accommodate delivery of Abnormal Indivisible Loads (AIL) and will consist of: • Laying of temporary load bearing surfaces at 1No. location. • Temporary removal of one traffic signal, three road signs, one bollard, one pole, a bridge railing, pedestrian guardrail and wall.at 1 No. location • Temporary removal of a wall, fence, poles and vegetation at 1No. location. • Construction of a permanent slip road linking the N4 and R290 at Carricknagat. • Removal of rock outcrop at Carricknagat including trees and vegetation clearance. Laying of a load bearing surface including associated drainage and reinstatement works. • Installation of temporary construction compound at Carricknagat to include site offices, welfare facilities and car parking. • Reinstatement of all temporary works areas to previous condition. • All associated and ancillary works required for the accommodation works and construction for the TDR. Permission is sought for a period of 10 years. Separate applications will be made to both Donegal and Mayo County Councils in respect of works required at locations within each county bounds. Minor, temporary works in Donegal are proposed at Killybegs, Glebe, Aghayeevoge, Cashelreagh Glebe, Bruckless, Aighan, Bruckless and Darney. Minor, temporary works in Mayo are proposed at Lecarrow, Crossmolina, Abbeytown, Knockalegan, Glebe, Gortskeddia, Ballina, Abbeyhalfquarter, Knocknalyre and Bunree. Description
In pasture, on the E edge of a narrow terrace. A circular area (diam. c. 20m) defined by a collapsed stone wall which is evident as a low grass-covered spread of stones (Wth 2.1m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 0.4m). At NW an 11m stretch of the wall has been removed. There is a narrow gap (Wth 0.8m) at SSE. The interior is level. The cashel is incorporated into the NE quadrant of a large oval field (int. diam. c. 50m E-W; c. 40m N-S) which is defined by a collapsed stone wall, a 30m stretch of which has been removed at NW, similar to that of the cashel. About 30m to E of the cashel is a D-shaped field (int. dims. c. 60m NNE-SSW), with a straight NW side (L c. 65m), also defined by a collapsed stone wall. Several small more regular fields, indicated on the 1913 OS 6-inch map, further to the E have been levelled. Description
In pasture, on the E edge of narrow terrace. Carricknagat cashel (SL020-198001-) is incorporated into the NE quadrant of a large oval field (int. diam. c. 50m E-W; c. 40m N-S) which is defined by collapsed stone wall. A 30m stretch of the field wall has been removed at NW, an 11m section has similarily been removed from the NW arc of the cashel. About 30m to E of the cashel is a D-shaped field (int. dims.: straight side c. 65m ESE-WNW; c. 60m NNE-SSW;) also defined by a collapsed stone wall. Description
On high ground overlooking the Collooney-Sligo road to E. An oval area (28m N-S; 18m E-W) defined by a scarp (H 2m), which is partially covered with overgrowth. The adjacent field boundaries have been removed. The rath is indicated on the 1838 OS 6-inch map as an embanked oval area (c. 25m NW-SE; c. 18m NE-SW). Description
Freestanding limestone memorial statue of Bartholmew Teeling standing on limestone obelisk, erected 1898. Tooled ashlar stonework to obelisk, margin-drafted at corners, gabled aedicules projecting from each face with concave-moulded verges and round-headed niches with chamfered margins, moulded cornice cap on which statue stands. Niche to north has commemorative incised inscription reading 'To the memory of Bartholomew Teeling and the valiant Irish and French soldiers who fought here for dear old Ireland. It is located prominently on the way into Collooney from the north.
