Description
In low-lying, gently undulating, improved pasture with ringfort (TS058-042002-) at the centre of the system and two enclosures (TS058-042003- and TS058-042005-) at the SE edge. Not shown on any edition of the OS 6-inch map but visible as a series of roughly rectilinear fields on an aerial photograph (CUCAP AVT 37; Bruff No. 5/2030). Not visible at ground level. Description
In low-lying gently undulating improved pasture at the centre of a relic field system (TS058-042001-) with two enclosures (TS058-042003- and TS058-042005-) 250m to the SE. Roughly circular slightly raised area (diam. 18m) defined by a gently sloping earthen scarp (overall Wth 3.2m; H 1.7m) with an external fosse (overall Wth c. 2m). A modern crescent-shaped depression has partially removed the scarp NE-SE but the original line of the external base of the scarp survives. The fosse is visible SE-SSW where a bare outline can be traced. The original entrance is not recognisable. The interior is level and clear of overgrowth. Description
On level ground at the base of a slight N-facing slope, in low-lying gently undulating improved pasture. A ditch-barrow (TS058-042004-) is located within the enclosure on the SW side while the enclosure is at the SE edge of a relic field system (TS058-042001-) with an enclosure (TS058-042002-) 250m to the NW. Roughly rectangular raised area (dims. 19m ESE-WSW; 16.5m NNE-SSW) defined by a gently sloping earthen scarped edge (overall Wth 3m; H 1m) with an external fosse (overall Wth c. 2m). The external fosse is visible SW-N where a bare outline can be traced. The original entrance is not recognisable. The interior is level and clear of overgrowth. Description
On the SW side of the interior of an enclosure (TS058-042003-) on level ground near the base of very slight N-facing slope in gently undulating improved pasture. The enclosure is at the SE edge of a relic field system (TS058-042001-) with a ringfort (TS058-042002-) located 250m to the NW. Circular area (diam. 2.6m) defined by a gently sloping earthen scarp (Wth 0.6m; H 0.1m) with an external wide flat-bottomed fosse (overall Wth 1.2m; Wth at base 0.6 m; D 0.1m). Description
On level ground at the base of a slight N-facing slope, in low-lying improved pasture. A ring-barrow (TS058-042006-) is located within the enclosure on the S side while the enclosure is at the SE edge of a relic field system (TS058-042001-) with an enclosure and ring-barrow (TS058-042003- and TS058-042004-) located 10m to the NW. Roughly rectangular raised area (dims. 16.5m N-S; 12m E-W) defined by a narrow flat-topped earthen bank (overall Wth 2.8m; Wth at top 0.6-1.1m; int. H 0.15m; ext. H 0.05m). From NNE-NE and SE-SW the bank is absent and the platform defined by a scarp (Wth 1.6m; H 1m). From SE-SW the scarp is overlain by the bank of the ring-barrow located in the interior. The edge of the enclosure has been truncated by a SSE-WNW flowing drain NE-SE. The original entrance is not recognisable. Description
Within an enclosure (TS058-042005-) in the SW quadrant. The enclosure is located near the base of a slight N-facing slope in low-lying improved pasture. It is situated at the SE edge of a relic field system (TS058-042001-) with an enclosure (TS058-042003-) and ring-barrow (TS058-042004-) located 10m to the NW. Ovoid area (dims. 7.5m E-W; 4m N-S) defined by an earthen scarp (Wth 0.6m; H 0.15-0.2m) with a shallow fosse (Wth at base 0.6m) and an external earthen bank (overall Wth 1.4-1.9m; Wth at top 0.6-1.10m; int. H 0.15-0.3m; ext H 0.15m). From NE-SE the edge of the enclosing elements have been removed by a by a SSE-WNW flowing drain. From SE-SW the external bank overlies the scarp defining the enclosure within which the ring-barrow is located. The interior is level and clear of overgrowth. - TS058-047 Barrow - mound barrow
Description
On a slight NW-facing slope, overlooking a NE-SW orientated valley, in improved pasture. A barrow (TS058-046----) is visible on the valley floor 750m to the NW and the standing stone (TS058-023004-) at Longstone is visible 1.8km to the N on the near horizon. Flat-topped ovoid earthen mound (dims. top 4.5m N-S; 3m E-W; base 17m N-S; 13m E-W; H 1.85-2.4m). No fosse or quarry ditch is visible at ground level. Erosion caused by livestock has formed a rough terrace midway up the side of the mound SW-SE. Some rubble stone has been exposed on the side of the mound at E. Description
On a slight W-facing slope, near the base of a slight rise, in gently undulating pasture. An annexe (TS058-048002-) is located immediately to the N. Rectangular slightly raised area (dims. 28m N-S; 24m E-W) with slightly rounded corners defined by an internal broad earthen bank (overall Wth 7.2m; Wth at top 2m; int. H 0.35m; ext. H 1.3m) with an external wide flat-bottomed fosse (overall Wth 7m; Wth at base 3-3.5m; D 0.2-0.8m). The N-S orientated bank defining the E side of neighbouring annex extends to the outer edge of the fosse at NNW. From SW-NW the bank and fosse have been removed with a N-S orientated field boundary lying along the line of the removed bank. The original entrance is not recognisable. The interior slopes slightly facing W and is clear of overgrowth. Due to the underlying natural slope, external ground level is slightly higher than the level of the interior at NE-SE. Description
On a slight W-facing slope, near the base of a slight rise, in gently undulating pasture. A moated site (TS058-048001-) is located immediately to the S. Rectangular very slightly raised area (dims. 42m N-S; 19m E-W) with defined by a broad internal earthen bank (overall Wth 8m; Wth at top 2m; int. H 0.1m; ext. H 15m) with an external wide flat-bottomed fosse (overall Wth 3.5m; Wth at base 1.4m; D 0.1m). The edge of the enclosure, possibly an annexe, is defined by the fosse of the moated site SE-SW. From SW-WSW the bank and fosse have been removed with a N-S orientated field boundary lying along the line of the removed bank and across the NW quadrant of the enclosure. Description
Detached three-bay single-storey labourer's cottage, built c.1915. Pitched slate roof with cast-iron rainwater goods and brick chimneystack. Rendered walls, painted to front elevation. Square-headed two-over-two pane timber sliding sash windows with painted sills. Gabled windbreak with slate roof and timber battened door. Small garden to front, with rendered walls and piers having double-leaf wrought-iron gates.
