- TS066-044001 Church
Description
In grassland atop a natural hilltop location, with good views in all directions. Situated in the centre of Lattin graveyard (TS066-044002-) are the possible wall-footings of the church, too vague for measurement but oriented E-W. Several architectural fragments, including two medieval window sills, have been used as grave-markers in the SW quadrant of the graveyard. The graveyard appears to have been cleaned up in the 1980s. According to the OS Letters from 1840, a small portion of the W gable of the church was all that survived (O'Flanagan 1930, vol. 1, 4). There is a holy well (TS066-04403-), known as Lady's well, 96m to the SW of the graveyard. The church, like the nearby holy well, may also have been dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary (O'Flanagan 1930, vol. 1, 4). Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 26 August 2011
- TS066-044002 Graveyard
Description
In grassland atop high ground with good views in all directions, medieval church (TS066-044001-) now levelled in centre of graveyard and holy well known as Lady's Well (TS066-044003) 96m to SW. Large subrectangular graveyard (int. dims. 90m N-S; 77m E-W) defined by a limestone wall enclosing 18th and 19th-century memorials. Several architectural fragments from church have been inserted into the graveyard as grave markers possibly as a result of a clean up scheme in the 1980s. Area immediately to NW of graveyard has been quarried into and portion of W quadrant of graveyard has also been quarried away. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 26 August 2011
- TS066-044003 Ritual site - holy well
Description
On flat grassland at the base of the W-facing slope of a hill on top of which is located Lattin church (TS066-044001-) and graveyard (TS066-044002-) 96m to the NE. Natural spring (int. diam. 0.9m: H 1.2m) well enclosed by a stone surround with flat lintelled roof with a gate hung on the door into the well, evidence of a circular dry stone wall surround at base of well. Whitethorn tree now collapsed beside well, no other features visible. No votive offerings visible in well or around whitehtorn bush. According to the OS letters the pattern to the well had been discontinued and that the well was dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God (O'Flanagan 1930, vol. 1, 4). The Pattern to the well was held on the 15th August of every year (Reynolds 1975, 70). Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 26 August 2011
