  Description

  Situated on a low rounded hillock in undulating countryside. The OS Letters describe the castle as surviving 24ft (7.3m) in length and measuring 6ft 3 inches (1.8m) thick (O'Flanagan 1930, vol. 3, 13). Described in the Civil Survey (1654-6) as a 'castle and some thatch cabins' (Simington 1934, vol. 2, 139). Not visible at ground level. • TN020-005 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on poorly drained flat land with the nearby Newtown River to the E. A raised circular area (diam. 46m E-W) enclosed by a poorly preserved earth and stone bank (Wth 2m; int. H 0.4m; ext. H 0.5-2m) reduced to a scarp in most places and a wide fosse (Wth 4.5m; D 0.5m) with a possible outer bank (Wth 1.5m; ext. H 0.4m) visible at W only. Possible causewayed entrance at E. Evidence of internal stone revetment of the inner bank is best visible at S. A field fence intersects the fosse at SE and NE.   Description

  Detached T-plan gable-fronted three-bay single-storey school, built 1931, with flat-roofed single-storey extension to rear. Pitched slate roofs with brick chimneystacks, cast-iron rainwater goods and cast-iron roof vent. Rendered walls with plaque to front gable. Square-headed openings with four-over-four and six-over-six pane timber sliding sash windows to front, six-over-nine pane to gables, blocked to rear, with painted sills. Timber battened doors. Rubble stone walls with metal gates to site boundary.
