- TS081-030001 Church
Description
On the summit of a natural ridge (running E-W) which slopes slightly to S, in gently rolling pastureland. According to Power (1908, 73) a holy well (TS081-030002-), no longer visible, was situated close to the church. The church is mentioned by Power (ibid.) as being situated 'in a field adjoining the road on its western side'. The landowners were aware of the tradition of a church at this location. The church is described as 'site of' on the 1st ed OS 6-inch map, with a small circular area outlined by a dashed line. There is no visible trace of this church above ground level. - TS081-030002 Ritual site - holy well
Description
On the summit of an natural ridge (running E-W) which slopes slightly to S, in gently rolling pastureland. This holy well is referred to as being 'Close to a church site' (TS081-030001-) and as being dried up, 'the patron is presumably Cuaran the Wise given in the Martyrology of Donegal under February 9th' (Power 1908, 73). There is no visible trace of this well above ground. The precise location of the well is unknown, however, based on Power's reference it has been given the same ITM co-ordinates as the church.
