Description
Marked only on the 1914 ed. of the OS 6-inch map, and situated on the NW-facing slope of Ballyfermoyle Hill. Subcircular grass-covered area (dims 16m E-W; 13.4m N-S), which remains unplanted in a coniferous forest, defined by a scarp down to the interior (H 0.5-0.7m) E-W, and an external scarp (H 0.6m) elsewhere. There is a field wall on the perimeter N-SE, but there is no visible entrance. Rath (RO004-035----) is c. 80m to the SE and cashel (RO004-036----) is c. 50m to the SSE. Description
Marked only on the 1914 ed. of the OS 6-inch map, and situated on a shelf on the NW-facing slope of Ballyfermoyle Hill. Circular grass-covered area (int. diam. 23.5m E-W; 21.8m N-S) defined by a scarp down to the interior (H at S 0.3m) surmounted by a drystone wall (Wth 0.5m; H 0.7m) E-S-W, and an outer scarp (H at N 0.7m) elsewhere. An E-W drystone wall crosses the interior N of the centre, and there is a rectangular house site (RO004-035002-) (ext. dims. 6.6m E-W; 4m N-S) visible as a depression with a wall-footing at N in the W interior. Description
Marked only on the 1914 ed. of the OS 6-inch map as a circular enclosure, and situated on a shelf on the NW-facing slope of Ballyfermoyle Hill. Circular grass-covered area (int. diam. 22.8m E-W; 22.5m N-S) which remains unplanted in a coniferous forest defined by a drystone wall (Wth 1-1.5m; int. H 0.2-1.1m; ext. H 1-1.5m) SE-W-N, but the perimeter is impinged on by farm buildings elsewhere. A modern entrance (Wth 2m) is cut through the wall at S. Description
On a low rise towards the bottom of the S-facing slope of Ballyformoyle Hill. A sunken, overgrown area (int. dims 2.2m NE-SW; 1.7m NW-SE; D 0.6m) defined by a large sandstone slab at SE and parallel limestone slabs at the NE and SW sides. It was investigated in the early 19th-century when it was thought to have rock-art (RO004-052002-) (D'Alton 1845, 115-6), of which there is no evidence, and it now includes drystone walling at the NW end.
