  At the crest of a slight E-facing slope. D-shaped grass-covered area (dims 23.6m N-S; 23.2m E-W) defined by an earth and stone bank (Wth 2.5-4.2m; int. H 0.1-0.5m; ext. H 0.3-1m) and hedge SW-NNE and by a scarp (H 0.3-0.6m) elsewhere. The straight edge at E may be due to quarrying externally here and the interior is poached.   Description

  On a rise in a fold with slightly higher ground to the NW and E. Described as a low mound (diam. c. 13m) surrounded by a slight fosse and outer bank (Gannon 1972). It is now a circular scrub-covered platform (diam. 19.2m N-S; 18.4m E-W) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 2.4-4.5m; int. H 0.2-0.5m; ext. H 0.55-1.35m) with no visible fosse.   Description

  On a gentle S-facing slope in a fold with sligthly higher ground to the NW and E. Subcircular scrub-covered platform (dims of top 12.7m E-W; 9.4m N-S; dims of base 16.8m E-W; 15m N-S) defined by a low bank (Wth 2.5-5m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 0.6-0.9m) and hedge NW-NE and at S, and by a scarp at E (H 1.3m) and W (H 0.6m). There is no visible fosse or identifiable original entrance, but field banks in the vicinity, except an E-W one 5m to the N, have been removed. Ring-barrow (RO042-076----) is c. 195m to the NNE.   Description

  In a broad, low-lying basin. Circular grass-covered mound (diam. of base 15m NW-SE; diam. of top 5.7m NW-SE; H 4.1-4.3m) with some bushes, which has a berm (Wth 2.4m) at its base at SE. The mound is separated by a wet, rush-covered fosse (Wth of base 7m at SE to 11.6m at NW; ext. D 1.4-1.9m) from an earthen bank (Wth 10-11.4m; ext. H 1.45-2m). A field drain and outer field bank surround the perimeter SSW-NNE, and a field bank overlies the perimeter E-S (max. ext. diam. 59.5m NW-SE).   Description

  Marked as a circular feature only on the 1915 ed. of the OS 6-inch map, and situated on a rise in an undulating landscape. Subcircular grass-covered area (diam. 33m N-S) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 2.2m; int. H 0.4m; ext. H 0.75m) and slight traces of a fosse (Wth of base 2.7m) SSE-SW and NNW-NNE. Elsewhere the perimeter has been disturbed by quarrying. There is no identifiable original entrance. Rath (RO044-075----) is c. 200m to the SSW.   On a rise in a low-lying landscape. Circular grass-covered area (diam. 54.4m NNE-SSW; 54m E-W) defined by an earthen bank with some bushes (at SSW: Wth 5.2m; int. H 1.1m; ext. H 1.25m) which is best preserved at NE (Wth 7.2m; int. H 2.4m; ext. H 2.3m at NE), with an outer fosse (Wth of top 5.5m; Wth of base 3m; D 0.55m) SSE-SW. The entrance (Wth 2.7m) is at NNE.   Description

  Marked as a curved filed boundary (C c. 90m) S-W-N on the 1837 and 1915 eds of the OS 6-inch map, and situated on a gently undulating landscape, which is a designed landscape with Grange House c. 500m to the ESE at the end of a vista contained by two parallel field banks extending between the two. A field bank and hedge (Wth c. 2m; H 1m) with an outer ditch curves SSW-NNE around a rectangular, grass-covered earth and stone mound (RO045-126002-) (dims of top 6.1m NW-SE; 4.2m NE-SW; dims of base 10m NW-SE; 7.8m NE-SW; H 0.7-0.85m).   Description

  On a gently undulating landscape. Circular grass-covered area (diam. 40.2m E-W; 39.6m N-S) defined by an earthen bank (at E: Wth 5.7m; int. H 0.3m; ext. H 1.1m) which is reduced to a scarp (H 0.9m) at N. There is no visible fosse but the entrance (Wth 3.3m) is at E, and there is an old quarry on the perimeter N-NE. • RO045-252 Gateway
  Description

  Located on a level landscape and on the wall defining the demesne of Grange House and at the entrance to the avenue up to the house. The gateway has a large masonry pier (dims 2.5m N-S; 0.78m E-W; H c. 2.5m) on each side of a carriageway (Wth 3.15m) that is surmounted by an arch, which is probably not original. The piers have some punch-dressed stones and each is pierced by a doorway (Wth 0.96m; H 1.88m) that is now blocked. The piers are surmounted by standing eagles facing inwards that might not be original. An armorial plaque (Wth 0.64m; H 0.72m) displays the arms of Lyster impaling FitzGerald with the French motto ‘Vivat vigeat / Dieu es tout / Floreat en..’ on a ribbon below. The crest and the gateway celebrate the marriage of Thomas Lyster of Grange and Bridget, daughter of Thomas FitzGerald of Turlough, Co. Mayo, in 1743. Thomas died in 1790 aged 71, having been High Sheriff of Roscommon in 1739 and 1745 (Denny 1909). Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 15 September, 2015
