• RO034-006 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Towards the bottom of a S-facing slope, and known as Rath Maol - the bald or clean rath - in the 19th century (O'Flanagan 1931, vol. 1, 70). Grass-covered oval area (dims 51.7m N-S; 42m E-W) defined by a rounded fosse (at S: Wth of top 7m; Wth of base 2.6m; int. D 1.8m; ext. D 0.3m; at N: Wth of top 12.6m; Wth of base 3.4m; int. D 1.75m; ext. D 0.6m). There is a causeway (Wth 2.4m; H 0.25m) at N. The platform has been cut back and the fosse removed ESE-SSE (max. ext. dims 66m N-S; 64.7m E-W). • RO034-007 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Visible as a circular feature on aerial photographs (GSIAP: M 63-4), and situated at the summit of a WNW-ESE ridge, towards the SE end. This is a circular grass-covered and slightly domed area (diam. c. 47m N-S; c. 44m E-W; H 0.6m at N to 1m at E). There is no visible fosse or entrance but it is undoubtedly a rath.   Description

  Detached four-bay two-storey former national school, built c.1840. Later converted to domestic and commercial use. Disused shopfront to north-east elevation and garage to east. Hipped slate roof with rendered chimneystack and cast-iron rainwater goods. Rendered walls with shopfront, c.1930, to north-east elevation comprising recessed glazed timber panelled door with overlight, flanked by display windows, surmounted by rendered fascia, cornice and brackets. Timber sash windows with stone sills. Timber panelled and glazed door to house. House is set perpendicularly to the street.

  Description

  Detached three-bay single-storey house with shop, built c.1850, now used for storage. Abuts house to north-east and recessed outbuilding to south-west. Pitched slate roof with red brick and rendered chimneystacks. Cut stone coping to gable. Timber sash window with wrought-iron railing and stone sill. Timber battened doors with overlight to domestic entrance. Shopfront comprising timber battened door flanked by display windows. Building fronts onto street.
