- LF015-023 Barrow - ring-barrow
Description
On a prominent rise in rolling countryside. A low circular mound of earth and stone (diam. at base 10.25m; max. H 0.35m) enclosed by a low bank of earth and stone (Wth 4.2m; H 1.05m) with a shallow internal fosse (Wth 3m; D 0.3-0.55m). At the outer foot of the bank is a second narrower fosse (Wth 1.8m; D 0.2m) and, beyond that, an outer bank (Wth 2.2m; H 0.5m). From NE-E-SE the outer bank and fosse have been levelled but their outlines are still identifiable. The original entrance is not recognisable. Compiled by: Patrick F. O'Donovan Date of upload: 27 February 2012
- LF015-024 Designed landscape - tree-ring
Description
On level pasture within demesne of 'Whitehill House'. Depicted as an oval-shaped raised area on the OS 26-inch plan (surveyed 1911). On inspection in 1975 the remains were visible as a low earthen bank which were not considered to be an antquity. There are no remains visible at ground level and, in all probability, this is a designed landscape feature, possibly a tree-ring. Compiled by: Paul Walsh Date of upload: 26 August 2011
- LF015-025 Ringfort - rath
Description
On a rise in low-lying pasture. Depicted as a subcircular enclosure planted with trees and designated 'Fort' on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. A report in 1970 (SMR file) noted that the rath had been reused as a landscape feature. It has since been levelled and its location is marked by a low, poorly defined mound of earth and stone. Compiled by: Patrick F. O'Donovan Date of upload: 16 January 2012
- LF015-026 Ringfort - rath
Description
On a SE-facing slope in pasture. An undated report (SMR file) recorded a circular area (diam. c. 32m) enclosed by a low earthen bank (H 0.5-0.75m), best preserved at W, with a shallow external fosse that had been deepened at W to form part of a field drain. The original entrance was not recognisable. The report suggested that the monument may have been a ringfort that was reused as a landscape feature as numerous tree stumps protruded from the bank and the interior. Not visible at ground level. Compiled by: Patrick F. O'Donovan Date of upload: 18 February 2012
