Description
In poorly drained, low-lying pasture. A raised circular area (diam. c. 27m) defined by a scarp (H 0.8-1.3m) with very slight traces of a bank of earth and stone. At the external base of the scarp is a poorly defined fosse (Wth 1.8m; D 0.3m). A depression (Wth 1.2m) in the scarp at N may mark the original entrance. Compiled by: Patrick F. Description
On a gentle E-facing slope in pasture. A report in 1976 (SMR file) recorded a raised circular area (diam. 27m) enclosed by a low bank of earth and stone at N. At NE and E the defining element was a scarp and at S and W the enclosing element had been levelled. The original entrance was not recognisable. On an E-facing slope in pasture. A raised circular area (diam. c. 43m) enclosed by a low bank of earth and stone (Wth 3.8-5.6m; H 0.4m) from N–E–S and elsewhere defined by a scarp (H 1.5m). Description
On a gentle E-facing slope in low-lying pasture. A raised oval area (c. 45m NW-SE; c. 33m NE-SW) defined by a scarp (max. H 0.5m) with a shallow external fosse (Wth 2m; D 0.1-0.2m). From N-NE-E the fosse has been infilled and replaced by a modern NW-SE field boundary. From SE-S-NW it has also been infilled but its outline is still identifiable. Description
Described in the Civil Survey (1654-6) as 'a foord called Ballagurtcullan', located at a 'brooke mearing between Ardagh and Doumming [Druming] in the barony of Moydow' (Simington 1961, vol. 10, 47). A 'Ford & F.S.' (foot-stone) marked on the 1913 edition of the OS 6-inch map at the junction of both parishes may be the ford referred to. However, no visible remains of it or the foot-stone survive.
