- MA038-009 Ringfort - rath
Description
In pasture, located on a rise, with extensive views, in an area of rolling grassland. This rath is named ‘Rathbreenan’ on the 1838 and 1922 OS 6-inch maps. It consists of a raised subcircular area (28m N–S; 29m E–W) defined by a stony earthen bank, and enclosed at N and SE by remnants of a fosse and external bank, outside which at NW there is a possible third bank with intervening fosse. The inner bank (Wth 4.6m; int. H 0.35-0.4m; ext. H 1.8m, at N) is best preserved at W–NW and N–NE, but elsewhere is largely reduced to a scarp (ext. H 1.4m at S). At NE there is a discrete arc (L c. 6m) of an external bank (Wth 2m; int. H 0.35m; ext. H 0.35m), with a gap or fosse (Wth 2m) separating it from the inner bank. Another discrete portion of this external bank is evident, engulfed in gorse, at SE, the line of which continues as a curving field fence at S–W, which then straightens and extends to N beyond the rath. The possible third bank can be traced at NW–NNE as a low curving rise (Wth c. 5m; int. H 0.3m; ext. H 2m, at NW) with a pronounced external slope; a gap/possible fosse (3.5m) intervenes between it and the second bank at N. The interior of the rath is level. There is a low area/gap (Wth 7m) in the inner bank at NW and another (Wth 6m) at E, but it is unclear if either represents an original entrance. There is an enclosure (MA038-171----) 120m to E. - MA038-175 Burnt mound
Description
In pasture, at base of the NE-facing slope of a low knoll. A NW-SE field drain bordering a road lies immediately to NE. This burnt mound is evident as a roughly oval, grass-covered mound (10m NW-SE; c. 6.5m NE-SW; H 0.5m at NE). It is composed of stone fragments in black soil. The surface of the mound is traversed by relict cultivation furrows on a NE-SW axis. Compiled by: Jane O'Shaughnessy Date of upload: 19 August 2019

- MA038-006 Ringfort - rath
Description
In pasture, located on a prominent rise, with good views over the surrounding undulating terrain. There is a stream 150m to S. A farmyard is located immediately to NW-N. This rath is named ‘Rathbaun’ on 1838 OS 6-inch map. Raised circular area (24.6m N-S; 24m E-W) defined by a degraded earthen bank (Wth 3.6m; int. H 0.3m; ext. H. 1.10 at N, 1.5m at S). A few stones protrude along the top of the bank. The interior is generally level, with a slight slope down to SE in the E half towards a slumped gap (Wth 5.5m) in the bank, which may be the location of the original entrance. At S the external face of the bank was incorporated into the line of a field boundary, remnants of which extend beyond the rath to E. A gravel quarry pit, shown on the 1922 OS 6-inch map, encroached to within 1m of the enclosing bank at W; it is now disused and grassed over. - MA038-007 Ringfort - rath
Description
In average pasture, utilising a rise on a low gravel ridge, with good views over the surrounding undulating terrain. Circular area (diam. 22m) defined ENE-NW by low bank (Wth 2.4m at SE, 2.7m at NW; int. H 0.4m; ext. H 0.55m) of earth and stone, levelled on the N arc to slight scarp. The interior is flat. There is a break (Wth 1.4m) in the bank at ESE, but it is not clear if this is the original entrance. Remnants of a field fence on NE-SW axis lie immediately to N of the rath. A gravel quarry pit (30-40m across), now grassed over, lies immediately to S-SW encroaching on the external face of the bank at SW. Compiled by: Jane O'Shaughnessy Date of upload: 17 July 2019
- MA038-008 Enclosure
Description
In pasture, located on the S slope of a low rise in undulating terrain. This possible enclosure is not shown on the 1838 OS 6-inch map; it is shown as a hachured circle (diam. 15-20m) on the 1922 edition. It consists of a roughly circular, sunken area (c. 18m N–S; c. 16m E–W), scarped into the slope of the rise, and defined on its perimeter at E–SE by an irregular sod-covered, stony rim (Wth up to 4m). The N half, which is cut into rising ground, has a pronounced internal slope (int. H 2m) which levels out in the S half of the interior. The perimeter is poorly defined at S and is more or less flush with exterior ground level. remains of an enclosure, that has been partly quarried out, or it may simply be entirely the result of relatively recent quarrying of the natural rise. The perimeter is ringed with hawthorn. There is a rath (MA038-170----) 7m to W. Compiled by: Jane O'Shaughnessy Date of upload: 17 July 2019

- MA038-170 Ringfort - rath
Description
In pasture, located on rise at the break of slope where ground falls away to N and W. There is a farmyard 65m to N. This rath is not indicated on the 1938 and 1922 OS 6-inch maps. It consists of an oval area (c. 35.5m N-S; c. 51.5m E-W) defined by a scarp. The scarp (Wth slope 2m; H 1.8m) is well defined on SW-NW, where cuts into and is enhanced by the natural ridge slope; at N the scarp peters out, merging imperceptibly with the natural slope; at NE-S it is low (H 0.3-0.5m), with a short section at SE retaining a low internal lip (Wth 2.4m). The N half of the interior is level, with a gentle slope down from there to S. In the N of the interior, along the line of a slight E-W scarp, there is a shallow depression (2m E-W; 2m N-S), defined on S and W sides by a low stony rise; this appears to be the result of relatively recent modification of the enclosure. The enclosure is partly boxed in by field fences, which slightly truncate the scarp at NNE and E, and cut across the S edge of the interior. There is a possible enclosure (MA038-008----) 7m to E. - MA038-171 Enclosure
Description
Located on a low rise in rolling grassland. This enclosure, which is known locally as the site of a 'fort', is not shown on the 1838 and 1922 OS 6-inch maps. The enclosure has been levelled, and its outline is poorly defined. It is evident as a roughly circular, slightly raised area (diam. c. 18-20m) defined at NNW-E by a low scarp (H 0.4m) and elsewhere by low, irregular curving undulations, merging at S with an area of rough, uneven ground. It appears to have been partly incorporated into field boundaries at NE, S and W in the past, but these too have been levelled, and are now barely discernible. A post and wire fence traverses the S edge. There is a rath (MA038-009----) is 120m to W. Compiled by: Jane O'Shaughnessy Date of upload: 19 August 2019
