• RO032-021 Megalithic tomb - wedge tomb
  Description

  On a slight rise in an undulating landscape. Wedge-shaped grass-covered cairn (dims 12m NE-SW; 4m NW-SE at NE to 6m NW-SE at SW) retained by orthostats on the NW side and four stones from the façade at SW. The façade leads through a portico over a septal slab into the chamber which is concealed by the cairn.   Description

  Description

  Just off the crest of a low N-S ridge, on the SW-facing slope. Circular grass-covered area (diam. 36.3m E-W; 35.2m N-S) defined by a flat-topped earthen bank and hedge (Wth of base 4-4.7m; Wth of top 1.2-1.6m; int. H 0.2m at W to 0.8m at S; ext. H 1.4m at E to 2.1m at S) which has many gaps, and a rounded fosse (Wth of top 6-7m; Wth of base 2.8-3.4m; D 1.1-1.4m). An outer bank (Wth 3.8-5.1m; H 0.15m at N to 1.5m at E), which has inner and outer facing-stones W-NW and many gaps, has been removed NE-SE. The original entrance is not identifiable.   Description

  At the crest of the SE end of a low NW-SE rise. Oval grass-covered area (dims c. 50m NE-SW; c. 43m NW-SE) defined by a scarp (H 0.6-1m), with traces of a bank (Wth 4m; int. H 0.3m; ext. H 1.1m) at E. It is bisected by a NE-SW field bank. There is no identifiable original entrance and traces of a fosse at N and ESE-WSW noted in 1978 (SMR file) can no longer be seen.
