• RO011-098 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  On top of a low drumlin. Circular overgrown area (diam. c. 30m) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 4.7-4.9m; int. H 0.25-0.6m; ext. H 1.5-1.75) S-N-E separated by a fosse (Wth of base 2.6m at SW to 5m at NW; D 0.2m at SW to 1m at NE) S-N-E from a gapped earthen bank (Wth 3.8m; int. H 0.7-0.9m; ext. H 0.4-0.7m) W-NE, which has slight traces of an outer fosse (Wth of base 2.4m; D 0.2-0.3m) at WNW. There is no visible entrance, and a NE-SW field bank and drain truncates the monument at SE. • RO011-099001 Church
  Description

  Marked similarly as an 'Abbey' on the 1837 and 1914 eds of the OS 6-inch map, and situated at the bottom of the E-facing slope of a drumlin. Described as the foundations of an E-W building within a rectangular area (RO011-099002-), perhaps a graveyard, defined by the remains of a wall (Gannon 1972). These features are no longer visible, but an oval grass-covered enclosure (RO011-099003-) (dims 37m plus E-W; 32m N-S) defined by a slight scarp (H 0.2-1.2m) is traceable NW-E-SW, but its W and E sides are impinged on by farm buildings. Human burials have been found at the site. Rath (RO011-100----) is c. 120m to the NE and rath (RO011-098----) is c. 150m to the W. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010

  Description

  Marked similarly on the 1837 and 1914 eds of the OS 6-inch map, and situated at the bottom of the E-facing slope of a drumlin. Described as a rectangular area, perhaps a graveyard, defined by the remains of a wall (Gannon 1972) and containing the remains of a building (RO011-099001-).   Description

  Situated at the bottom of the E-facing slope of a drumlin. The church (RO011-099001-) is described as the foundations of an E-W building within a rectangular area (RO011-099002-), perhaps a graveyard, (Gannon 1972). These features are no longer visible, but an oval grass-covered enclosure (dims 37m plus E-W; 32m N-S) defined by a slight scarp (H 0.2-1.2m) is traceable NW-SW, but its W and E sides are impinged on by farm buildings, and human burials have been found at the location.   On a low rise in a low-lying landscape. Subcircular grass-covered area (dims 23m E-W; 20m N-S) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 3-3.7m; int. H 0.3m generally to 0.6m at SW; ext. H 1-1.1m) NE-S-W and a scarp (H 0.9m) elsewhere, with an outer fosse (Wth of base 2.7m at SE to 3.5m at SW; D 0.2-0.3m) at NE and SW. There is no visible entrance.
