• RO028-002 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Towards the bottom of a SE-facing slope. Circular grass-covered area (diam. 32.2m NW-SE; 29.6m NE-SW) sloping down to the SE (H 2m) defined by an overgrown earthen bank (Wth 6-6.4m; int. H 0.7-0.8m; ext. H 2.2-2.3m). The bank is separated by a fosse (Wth of top 9.6-12.3m; Wth of base 2.5m; D 1.3-1.6m) from an overgrown outer bank (Wth 4.4-5m; H 0.2-0.9m), but the inner bank is reduced to a scarp (H 0.9m) SE-S, and the fosse and outer bank are removed ESE-S (max. ext. diam. 52.4m NE-SW).   Description

  Marked only on the 1930 ed. of the OS 6-inch map with a solid line as a D-shaped feature (dims c. 20m E-W; c. 15m N-S) with the straight side an E-W field bank at S. Situated on the NE-facing slope of a NW-SE spur. This is a triangular grass-covered quarry (dims c. 20m N-S; c. 20m E-W; D c. 1.5m) with the apex at N.   Description

  On a gentle N-facing slope. Circular grass-covered area (diam. 43.8m E-W; 40.5m N-S) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 2.7m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 1m) SW-W, which is reduced to a scarp (H 0.2m at S to 1.3m at N) elsewhere, and a fosse (Wth of top 6.5-7m; Wth of base 2.5-2.8m; D 0.1-0.4m) NW-SW. There is no identifiable original entrance.
