• RO023-085 Enclosure - large enclosure
  Description

  Marked as a large circular embanked enclosure (ext. diam. c. 90m) on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map, and as a large field (diam. c. 90m) on the 1914 ed. Situated on a gentle E-facing slope at the base of a steeper E-facing slope. Circular grass-covered area (int. diam. c. 84m) defined by a drystone wall and hedge which do not survive S-W. It is bisected by a N-S field bank and later field banks are attached to the perimeter, which was removed NNW-ESE since 1996 (Bing c. 2013). Rath (RO023-086----) is c. 190m to the NE. • RO023-086 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  In a low-lying position on a gentle S-facing slope. Circular area (diam. 36.9m E-W; 36.8m N-S) defined by an overgrown earthen bank (Wth 4.2-6m; int. H 0.5-0.6m; ext. H 1.4-1.8m) and outer fosse (Wth of top 4.5-5m; Wth of base 2.2-2.7m; D 0.5-0.9m) which has been extended into a pond SE-S. There are entrances at WNW (Wth 1m) and NNW (Wth 1.8m) which are probably modern. The large enclosure (RO023-085----) is c. 190m to the SSW. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010

  Description

  On the crest of a low E-W drumlin ridge. Subcircular overgrown area (dims. 36m E-W; 31.2m N-S) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 5-5.3m; int. H 0.3m; ext. H 0.3-0.6m) and outer fosse (Wth of top 5.2-5.6m; Wth of base 2.3-2.6m; D 0.2-0.4m) WSW-NNE which are incorporated into a field bank (Wth 3.8m; int. H 0.8m; ext. H 1.2m) with an outer drain (Wth of base 1.7m; D 0.8m) SE-WSW, and truncated by a field wall at E. There is an entrance (Wth 1.8m) at W. Rath (RO023-091----) is c. 135m to the E.   Description

  Just off the crest of a low E-W drumlin ridge, on the S-facing slope. Oval grass-covered area (dims 43m NE-SW; 34m NW-SE) defined by an earthen bank (at NE: Wth 4.5m; int. H 1.1m; ext. H 1.6m) and outer fosse re-cut as a field drain (at NE: Wth of top 3.6m; Wth of base 1.5m; ext. D 0.7m) NW-NE, but the perimeter is reduced to a low scarp (at SW: H 0.2m) elsewhere in reclaimed pasture. Rath (RO023-087----) is c. 135m to the W.   Description

  On the crest of a low NW-SE ridge. Subcircular grass and scrub-covered area (dims 33.6m N-S; 29.6m E-W) defined by an overgrown earthen bank (Wth 4.3-5.2m; int. H 0.2-0.6m; ext. H 0.5m generally to 1.8m at E) that has been reduced to a scarp (H 0.8m) N-E, and an outer fosse (Wth of top 5.8m; Wth of base 3.1m; D 0.3m at N to 0.8m at E) W-N-E which is partly filled with spoil.
