H 0.7m) ENE-E and a scarp (H 0.4-0.7m) elsewhere, with a fosse (at SW: Wth of top 6.5m; Wth of base 1.7m; ext. D 0.4m; at SSE: Wth of top 4.2m; Wth of base 1.2m; ext. D 0.4m) NE-SE and SW-NW. - RO011-047001 Church
Description
The parish church of Killukan is listed as Kilankyn in the ecclesiastical taxation of Elphin in 1306 (Cal. doc. Ire., vol. 5, 224). It was in ruins in 1615 when the present structure may have been built and it continued as a Church of Ireland church into the 19th century (D'Alton 1845, 91-2). The list of clergy from 1615-1825 survives (Keenehan 2006b, 91). The church is situated on a terrace above the NW bank of the SW-NE Killukin River. It is a rectangular structure (int. dims 18.33m ENE-WSW; 6.15m NNW-SSE) whose walls (Wth 0.68m; H 1.5m) are built of coursed mortared limestone masonry. There is a doorway (Wth 1.14m) in the W wall, but no other features are evident and it probably dates from the eighteenth century. It is within a rectangular graveyard (RO011-047002-) (dims 46m NNW-SSE, 36m ENE-WSW) defined by masonry walls. The graveyard is within a possible D-shaped ecclesiastical enclosure (dims c. 160m WNW-ESE; c. 180m plus NNE-SSW) defined by the line of the original Carrrick-on-Shannon to Elphin road (R368) that curves W of the graveyard and is c. 100m from it SW-NW. This perimeter can be shown to continue S-SW as a feature visible on LiDAR imagery, and this section was confirmed by two remote sensing techniques that identify it as a likely stone-filled ditch (Curran 2016, 9). However, evidence of the line of this enclosure where it would return to the Killukin River NW-NE of the church was not recorded because of extensive disturbance in that area (Curran 2018, 6-8). Evidence of an oval ditched enclosure (dims c. 40m NE-SW; c. 25m NW-SE) recorded in positive magnetometry readings just N of the graveyard was also recovered and may represent an inner sanctum of the early church (Curran 2016, 9). Tober Chonaolanaigh or Connellan's Well (RO011-045----) is c.500m to the SSW. (Keenehan 2006b) Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of revised upload: 8 June 2018

H 1.6m; at S: Wth 6.7m; int. H 1.05m; ext. H 1.2m) E-S-W and a scarp (H 1.3m generally to 2m at NE) elsewhere, with an outer fosse (Wth of base 2.9m; D 0.2-0.3m) SW-WNW. There is an entrance (Wth 1.2m) and causeway (Wth 1.4m) at SW, and the perimeter is circumscribed by a field bank and drain ESE-SSW and by a field bank NE-ESE. - RO011-178 Enclosure
Description
Situated in improved pasture, on a gentle SW-facing slope. It was first identified by Susan Curran as part of an M.A. thesis with University College Dublin using a LiDAR survey dataset commissioned by Leitrim County Council and the National Roads Authority. This is a rectangular area (dims 26m NE-SW; 22m NW-SE) defined by low scarps (at NW: Wth 1m; H 0.2m), except at SE where it merges into the slope. There are traces of a fosse (at NW: Wth of top 3.8m; Wth of base 2m; ext. D 0.1m) on each side, except the SE. An entrance (Wth of top 5m) is visible as a slight dip in the lip of the scarp at the N end of the NW side. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 12 May, 2015

Description
Located in improved pasture toward the top of a slight SW-facing slope. It was first identified by Susan Curran as part of an M.A. thesis with University College Dublin using a LiDAR survey dataset commissioned by Leitrim County Council and the National Roads Authority. This is a circular area (diam. 22m NE-SW; 20m NW-SE) defined by a low scarp which is best preserved (at N: Wth 1.8m; H 0.15m) SSW-N-ENE. There are traces of a fosse (at N: Wth of top 4.7m; Wth of base Wth 1.4m; D 0.15m) N-SE. The perimeter is respected by a field bank and hedge that curve around it SW-NW. There is no visible entrance. Description
Located in improved pasture toward the top of a slight SW-facing slope and at the centre of rath (RO011-179----). Magnetic gradiometry and earth resistance surveys identified a subcircular area of medium resistance (diam. c. 8m) that could be interpreted as a hut-site while a central feature within it could be a hearth or a pit. Areas of high resistance outside the hut to the W and S could represent areas of paving. (Curran 2016) Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 8 June 2018

Description
Situated at a break in slope on a gentle E-facing slope. This feature was first identified and recorded by Susan Curran as part of an M.A. thesis with University College Dublin using a LiDAR survey dataset commissioned by Leitrim County Council and the National Roads Authority in 2012. This is a subcircular grass-covered area (dims c. 30m E-W; c. 25m N-S) defined by an earthen bank (Wth c. 1.5m; H c. 0.4m) SE-SW which is incorporated into a field bank SW-NW and visible as a scarp elsewhere. A magnetic gradiometry survey identified a positive magnetic anomaly outside the bank SE-SW and an earth resistance survey confirmed an area of high resistance in the same area that can be interpreted as a stone-filled fosse feature, but it was not possible to conduct these surveys on the steep E side of the enclosure. It may be a rath, but it could also be a small field. (Curran 2016, 8-10) Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 8 June 2018
