• SL003-022001 Field boundary
  Description

  Listed in the SMR (1989) and RMP (1995) and classified 'Field Wall' in both. Located in undulating pasture on a limestone plateau. An earlier report (NMI 1948) recorded an old field wall, composed of large boulders, which had no connection with the modern field system. This has apparently since been removed.   Description

  Situated on level ground in gently undulating pasture. Not shown on the 1837 edition of the OS 6-inch map but depicted on the 1912 edition as a roughly circular enclosure (diam. c.15m). • SL003-026 Ringfort - cashel
  Description

  On a level terrace located on the N side of a NE-SW orientated ridge, in pasture. The cashel consists of a slightly raised roughly circular area (diam. 22m) enclosed by a stone bank (Wth 2.5m; int. H 1.1m) of random limestone rubble. There is no fosse visible at ground level. From W-NE, the bank is absent on the N side of a NE-SW orientated drystone field wall that crosses the site. Where the bank is absent, the limit of the cashel is visible as a darker band of grass (Wth 3m). The original entrance is not recognisable. Compiled by: Patrick F. • SL003-028001 Ringfort - cashel
  Description

  Situated on top of a small rise in pasture. Not marked on any edition of the OS 6-inch map. The site was inspected by an OPW fieldworker in 1942 and the ensuing field report recorded the site of a cashel with a souterrain (see SL003-028002-) within its interior (SMR file).   Description

  A cashel (SL003-028001-) was identified here in 1942 by an OPW fieldworker. A souterrain was recorded within its interior. According to the report the souterrain, although closed up, was still intact. (SMR file) The monument has since been levelled and there are no remains of either cashel or souterrain now visible. • SL003-029 Ringfort - cashel
  Description

  On N slope of a limestone ridge. This possible cashel was first recorded by Oliver Davies in the early 1940’s. His field report records ‘about half a cashel wall remains, faced with rough fairly large stones outside and small stones inside. It survives to almost 4ft [1.2m] high. It is rather ruinous and the top may have been rebuilt; the inner face is rather better preserved than outer. Thickness about 5 ft [1.5m]. West side entirely removed. Apparently circular, int. diam. c. 21 yds. [19m]’ (NMI Topographical Files). An inspection in 1991 recorded an arc of wall (Wth 0.6-0.8m; int. H c. 2m; ext. H 1.75m) of irregular boulders, curving NE−SE, largely obscured by overgrowth, but no trace of an enclosure was found during an inspection in 2003 (SMR files). Compiled by: Patrick F. • SL003-031 Ringfort - cashel
  Description

  Situated in level pasture. Circular area (diam. 23m) enclosed by a stone bank of random rubble limestone (Wth 3.4m; int. H 0.6m). There is no fosse visible at ground level. From N-E, the bank has been removed and the edge of the site is defined by a slight inward facing scarp (H 0.3m). A slightly raised, roughly gravelled farm trackway skirts the edge of the enclosure N-E. The original entrance to the site is not recognisable.   Description

  Located on the W side of Creevykeel cashel (SL003-031----). Roughly rectangular slightly raised area (dims. 5.9m NW-SE; 5m NE-SW) enclosed by a stone bank (Wth 3.2m; int. H 0.1m) of small rubble limestone. The NW corner abuts the inner face of the bank of the cashel. The original entrance is not recognisable.   Located on the W side of Creevykeel cashel (SL003-031----). Roughly rectangular slightly raised area (dims. 7m NW-SE; 5m NE-SW) enclosed by a stone bank (Wth 3.2m; int. H 0.2m; ext. • SL003-034001 Ringfort - cashel
  Description

  On the summit of slight E-W orientated ridge in gently undulating rocky pasture. Slightly raised circular area (diam. c.7m) defined by a drystone wall (Wth 1.5m; int. H 0.8m). The stone wall encloses the site on all sides. It is constructed of large blocks of irregular rubble with a rough internal and external facing. A WSW-ENE orientated relic field wall links to the enclosure wall at SW. The original entrance to the site is via a break (Wth 1.1m) in the wall at N.   Description

  On a slight WSW-facing slope in pasture. Low, squat, irregularly-shaped upright stone (H 0.95m; L 0.75m; Wth. 0.2m -0.4m) aligned WNW-ESE.   Description

  Detached four-bay single-storey thatched house, built c. 1825. Flat-roofed extension to west (rear). Reed thatched roof, scalloped ridge and eaves, concrete skews, painted smooth-rendered flat-capped chimneystack. Painted smooth-rendered walling. Square-headed window openings, painted stone sills, painted louvred timber shutters c. 1990, uPVC casement windows. Square-headed door opening, painted vertically-sheeted timber door with integral glazed panel c. 2000. Small garden to east, low painted smooth-rendered boundary wall with segmental coping to main Sligo/Donegal road.
