  Description

  Not marked on the 1837 OS edition of the OS 6-inch map. Depicted on the 1911 edition as a subcircular enclosure. Situated on a S-facing slope within an area of sand dunes.   Description

  In grass-covered sandhills. Not marked on any edition of1837 or 1912 OS 6-inch maps. This is the approximate location of a children's burial ground. It is known locally as Kilnamucktán, and is difficult to find due to shifting sands, although a field wall has been noted at the NE of the area (pers. comm. M.A. Timoney 19/04/1989). An inspection in 1994 found a roughly circular area (max. dim. c. 30m) which appeared to have been scarped or quarried on the SW side, but there was no trace of a wall and no evidence to confirm that this was the location of the burial ground.   Description

  Detached multi-bay two-storey stone gatelodge, built c. 1880. Square tower to south-east, single-pitched roofed extension c. 2000 to rear, single-pitched porch in angle between tower and east elevation, two-stage tower with steeply-pitched pyramidal roof to north-west. Pitched slate roofs, clay ridge tiles to main building, lead capped ridges to tower, ashlar rock-faced stone corbelled chimneystack with chamfered cap and yellow clay pots, painted carved decorative timber bargeboards, moulded timber and wrought-iron finials, profiled extruded aluminium gutters on exposed painted timber rafter ends. Roughly-squared rubble limestone walling, dressed ashlar quoins, chamfered ashlar limestone plinth. Square-headed window openings, ashlar limestone chamfered reveals, flush sills, stone lintels, varnished one-over-one timber sash windows. Square-headed door opening, ashlar limestone dressings, stop-chamfered reveals, chamfered lintel on splayed corbels, varnished timber door with six moulded panels. Located to north of gatescreen with central carriage entrance flanked by pedestrian openings, drive leading to Classiebawn Castle, dry stone boundary walls, ashlar stone gate piers with flush canted caps, steel gates.

  Description

  Detached multi-bay single- two- and three-storey with raised basement and attics stone mansion, built 1874. East main entrance wing with central five-stage tower with bartizan to south-east corner, three-storey over basement block to south with pitched roof set behind parapet and gabled entrance breakfront, two-storey with dormered attic pitched roof block to north. L-plan three-bay by two two-storey over raised basement gabled and parapeted south wing with single-storey over basement canted bay to west gable end. Two two-storey over basement gabled blocks to west stepping down to single storey service wing and enclosed yard to north-west. Pitched and hipped slate roofs, crested clay ridges, stepped ashlar stone corbelled chimneystacks, ashlar stone verge and parapet copings, cast-iron rainwater goods. Squared-and-snecked rubble stone walling, dressed ashlar quoins, ashlar strings, ashlar basement plinth course, ashlar corbelling to bartizan, machicolated ashlar corbelling to tower parapet. Square-headed window openings, splayed ashlar reveals and lintels, flush sills, painted one-over-one timber sash windows, two-over-two to basement. Pointed-arch window openings to east front at first and second floor of south block (continuous hood moulding to second floor gallery arcade) over entrance breakfront and to stairwell (with ashlar transoms) to north block, painted timber plain-glazed fixed lights. Square-headed door opening, profiled corbels to lintel, carved cartouche in spandrel of depressed arch over, moulded ashlar surround to arch, hood moulding over with carved label stops, flanking stone colonettes with carved capitals on square dados, varnished hardwood diagonally-sheeted double doors, three-sided stone approach steps. Sea edge location on elevated site, extensive grounds, approached by long avenue from gatelodge to east.
