Recorded monuments

• SL009-002012 Boundary mound
  Description

  The final and north-easterly of twelve features (SL009-002001-; SL009-002002-; SL009-002003-; SL009-002004-; SL009-002005-; SL009-002006-; SL009-002007-; SL009-002008-; SL009-002009-; SL009-002010-; SL009-002011-; SL009-002012-), each indicated with a dot on the OS 1837 edition of the OS 6-inch map. On the 1913 map each bears the designation 'Mound'. They are positioned along the border of Slievemore or Kingsmountain and a series of adjoining townlands to the S. The boundary mounds extend for a total of 1.2km along an undulating S-facing terrace, in elevated mountain pasture overlooking Glencar Lake to the SE. Views are panoramic from E-S-W and but elsewhere obscured by the summit of King's Mountain. In 1991 a fieldworker dismissed these potential monuments as 'clearance cairns' (SMR file). When visited in 2004 no remains were identified (SMR file). These are probably post 1700 AD features. Compiled by: Patrick F. O'Donovan Date of upload: 19 August 2013

• SL009-012 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on a slight S-facing slope, in gently undulating wet upland pasture. Raised roughly oval area (dims. 26m N-S; 18m E-W) enclosed by a scarp of earth (ext. H 0.6m). There is no fosse visible at ground level. Field drains, now relic and largely silted up, have been dug at the external base of the scarped edge on all sides. From WSW-NE the edge of the site has been straightened off and a bank of spoil from the drain dumped on top of the scarped edge. The original line of the edge of the site is preserved NE-SE and a bank of spoil has been dumped on top of the scarped edge. The original entrance is not recognisable.   Description

  Situated in level pasture 30m from W shore of Glencar Lake. Not depicted on any edition of the 6'' OS 6-inch map. Visible as a rectangular enclosure (dims. c.15m E-W; c.12m N-S) in aerial photograph (OS 1 3294-5). The site has been levelled; only irregular remains visible at ground level. Compiled by: Patrick F. • SL009-058 Booley hut
  Description

  Not shown on the 1837 edition of the OS 6-inch map. At the base of localised hollow, on slight S-facing slope, in undulating boggy mountain pasture. Views are excellent to S but elsewhere much obscured by higher ground. Remains comprise a rectangular hut or house (dims. 4m NNW-SSE; 3m ENE-WSW) defined by wall footings (max H 0.2m; T 0.6m). There is no definite break to indicate the position of the doorway. The site is constructed against the ENE side of a now relic NNW-SSE orientated field wall. This is a post-1700 AD monument.
