• SL017-025001 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on a rise in poorly-drained, undulating pasture. Raised circular area (diam. 28.7m N–S) enclosed by an earthen bank (Wth 5.5m; int. H 1.3m) with an infilled external fosse (Wth 3-4.5m) and a low counterscarp bank (Wth 2.5m; int. H 0.6m; ext. H 0.5m) which can be traced at SW–NW. A partially blocked-up break (Wth 2m) in bank at E represents the original entrance. Within the interior, which slopes slightly down from NW to SE, there is a souterrain (see SL017-025001-).   Description

  At a rath (SL017-025001-). A short distance W of the centre in the interior of the rath is an access hole to a souterrain. A passage (Wth 0.7m; H 0.6m), whose walls are constructed of drystone masonry and which is roofed with slabs, is visible extending in a SW direction. Compiled by: Patrick F.
