• SL008-145 Ringfort - unclassified
  Description

  Situated on hillock in gently undulating pasture. Depicted as a circular enclosure on the 1836-7 and 1940-1 editions of the OS 6-inch map area. On the latter map the enclosure (diam. c.32m) is defined by hachures. The site is overgrown and inaccessible. Compiled by: Patrick F. O'Donovan Date of upload: 21 April 2011

• SL008-199 Barrow - pond barrow
  Description

  Not indicated on any edition of the OS maps, this possible barrow was discovered in 2013 in the course of a review of LiDAR data where it is visible as a bi-vallate enclosure-like feature (diam. c. 45m). Although the remains bear a superficial resemblance to monuments of the ringfort class, it is to be noted that the inner enclosed area is almost 1m lower than the exterior ground level (pers. comm. Dr Steve Davis, UCD). In consequence, some caution is necessary in regard to classification and the remains could be interpreted as possibly falling within the pond-barrow or embanked barrow traditions. This interpretation is purely tentative and a proper elucidation of the monument must await further investigation. A second enclosure (SL008-200----) adjoins it immediately to the SE.
