• TS060-081 Enclosure
  Description

  On the summit of a hill in pasture. The townland boundary runs roughly N-S 10m to the W of the monument. The monument has been ploughed over but survives as a raised circular area (Diam. 24.8m N-S; 24.6m E-W) defined by scarp (H 0.42m). The E sector is particularly degraded making the scarped edge difficult to discern. There is some cattle poaching in the S quadrant and a small area of quarrying into the scarp at the SSW. The 1906 OS 6-inch map depicts the monument as a sub-oval area with the townland boundary, running NE-SW along the edge of the W sector. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 26 August 2011

  Description

  In improved pasture, on E-side of a broad ridge. Monument is depicted as a sub-rectangular enclosure on the 1st (1840) ed. OS 6-inch map and as an oval enclosure (map dims. 25m N-S; 33m E-W) on the 2nd (1906) ed. The enclosure appears to have been levelled, but the structure (TS060-082001-) depicted in the NW quadrant on the 2nd ed. is visible as a roughly square raised area.   Description

  In improved pasture, on E-side of a broad ridge. Building is depicted on the 2nd (1906) ed. OS 6-inch map in the NW quadrant of an enclosure (TS060-082----). Roughly square area (dims. 8m NNE-SSW; 8m ESE-WNW) defined by scarp (Wth 6m; H 0.85m) on W (L 5.5m) and S (L 7m) sides (L 5.5m) which is more pronounced (H 2.3m) on the N (L 6m) and E (L 6m) sides.   Description

  In improved undulating pasture, on a natural rise. Circular area (diam. 36m) defined by bank (overall Wth 10.4m; Wth at top 3.7m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 1.2m) SW-NNE and at E and reduced to scarp (Wth 5m; H 0.85m) elsewhere. Possible traces of fosse (overall Wth 9.9m; basal Wth 3.4m; Dth 0.18m) E-SE. Interior is generally level, but uneven.   In improved pasture, on a level area, at base of a N-facing slope. Square area (dims. 25m E-W; 23m N-S) defined by a levelled bank (overall Wth 7.5m; Wth at top 4m; int. H 0.15m; ext. H 0.15m) on S-side (L 24m) and levelled scarp (Wth 2.5m; H 0.15m) on W (L 24m), N (L 23m) and E-sides (23m). Fosse (overall Wth 6.5m; basal Wth 2.5m; D 0.05m) is best defined (overall Wth 5m; basal Wth 1.5m; D 0.15m) at S. Interior is generally level.   In improved pasture, on an E-facing slope. Oval area (dims. 32m NNE-SSW; 25m WNW-ESE) defined by bank (overall Wth 4.1-4.6m; Wth at top 1.2-1.5m; int. H 0.2-0.5m; ext. H 0.2-0.25m) S-NW and NE-E and reduced to scarp (Wth 2.9m; H 0.65m) E-S and remains of levelled scarp (Wth 1.25m; H 0.15m) NW-NE. Possible entrance (Wth 3.8m) at W.   In improved pasture, on an E-facing slope. View of Rock of Cashel to NE. Semi-circular area (dims. 26m NW-SE; 10m NE-SW) defined by scarp (Wth 6.5m; H 0.7m) NW-SE. Scarp (Wth 8m; H 0.65m) levels out at SE and becomes incorporated into natural ground level at S. Fosse (overall Wth 12.35m; basal Wth 4.75m; D 0.15m) NW-E. Interior has a NE-facing slope.
