• TN027-030 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated in a broad valley in gently undulating terrain. Not indicated on the 1st or latest ed. OS 6-inch maps but identified by aerial photography taken in 1973 (GSIAP, R 117/8). The site has been levelled but is visible as a raised, roughly circular enclosure (diam. 29m N-S; 25.6m E-W) with a concave interior defined by a flattened bank (Wth c. 6.5m; int. H 0.32m; ext. H 0.54m). No evidence of an external fosse. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary.   Description

  Situated in a river valley with the river nearby to the S. A raised circular area defined by an earthen bank (Wth 2.9m; int. H 0.4m; ext. H 1.4m) mainly reduced to a scarp and a U-shaped external fosse (Wth 5m). A large quantity of scrub clearance and dead wood is dumped in the NW quadrant and the fosse is infilled in this sector. A NNW-SSE field boundary clips the site at SW-W. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary.   Description

  Situated in a low-lying position in a very wet field which appears to have been reclaimed. Not indicated on the 1st ed. (1843) OS 6-inch map. The site has been levelled but is visible as a circular area (diam. 31m N-S; 29.6m E-W) enclosed by a low broad, curving bank (Wth 8m; H 0.2-0.3m) best preserved at SE, SW and N. The ditch of a NW-SE field boundary clips the NE edge of site. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary.
