- WM012-142 Ringfort - rath
Description
Situated on N facing slope of a steep sided hillock in grassland, with good views from NW-NE. Ringfort (WM012-179----) 100m to S. A raised sub-circular shaped area (approx. diam. 45m N-S; 48m E-W) enclosed by a low earthen bank and a shallow external fosse. The bank is best preserved from N-E-SE and from SE-SSW and reduced to a scarp elsewhere. Traces of cultivation ridges are visible running WNW-ESE across the interior, which slopes to the N. - WM012-143 Ringfort - rath
Description
Situated on a prominent hillock in grassland with commanding views in all directions. Ringfort (WM012-144----) 150m to ENE. Depicted on the 1837 OS Fair Plan as a circular shaped earthwork annotated as ‘fort’. This site has been levelled, and all that remains is a flat oval; area on top of the hillock. Description
Situated on a prominent rise in grassland. Ringfort (WM012-143----) 150m to WSW. This site has been partially levelled. All that remains is a raised area (approx. diam. 29m NW-SE; 27m NE-SW) defined by a scarp with slight traces of a bank at ESE. Traces of cultivation ridges are visible running NE-SW across the interior, which rises towards the centre. A field fence running NE-SW intersects the monument at NE. Description
Situated on top of a steep rise in grassland, with good views from W-NW. Ringfort (WM012-142----) 100m to N. A large sub-circular shaped slightly raised area (approx. diam. 57m NW-SE; 61m NE-SW) enclosed by a poorly preserved earthen bank and a wide, very shallow external fosse. The bank has been reduced to a scarp in places. There is an entrance gap (Wth 2.6m) at NE.
