• WM030-108 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on a rise, in a small pasture field, adjoining the S boundary of Tullaghnageeragh House to SW, with good views in all directions. Annotated 'Fort' on the 1837 OS Fair Plan map and depicted as a roughly oval-shaped earthwork. Depicted on the revised 1910 ed. OS 25-inch map as a curvilinear field boundary marking the W arc of the enclosing bank, otherwise incorporated into the rear yard of Tullaghnageeragh House. Monument described in 1979 as an oval-shaped area (dims. 29m E-W; 21m N-S) defined by a steep scarp at NNW and from E-S-SSW and incorporated in modern field walls from SW-W-N-NNW. There is no sign of an entrance. The interior rises slightly from the perimeter towards the centre and there are no discernible features. Ruined shed on N. Monument is visible today as a roughly oval-shaped tree-planted area on Digital Globe aerial photography. Compiled by Alison McQueen, Vera Rahilly and Caimin O’Brien.   Description

  Level crossing gates, erected c.1851, comprising a pair of cut stone gate post supporting a pair of timber crossing gates with cast-iron fittings and with modern metal mesh to the base. Now out of use. Pedestrian gates to either side, comprising cast-iron gate posts supporting wrought-iron gates. Heavily altered and extended single-storey former level crossing guard’s house to the northeast side. Located to the northwest of Moate and to the west of Moate Railway Station (15317037).

• Tullaghnageeragh House, outbuilding, house, 1840–1870 · Regional interest
  Description

  Detached double-pile three-bay two-storey house, built c.1850 possibly incorporating then fabric of an earlier building. Double pitched slate roof with rendered chimneystacks to either gable end (north and south) having terracotta pots over. Remaining sections of cast-iron rainwater goods. Front façade (east) has three modern dormer openings to the roof. Roughcast rendered walls over smooth rendered plinth with smooth rendered bands to the corners. Square-headed window openings with tripartite timber casement windows. Central round headed doorcase to the main façade having an architraved cut limestone surround and a timber panelled door with radial/spoke fanlight over. Detached two-bay two-storey former coach house to the rear (west), built c.1800, having a single-bay single-storey extension/wing attached to the north end. Now in use as an outbuilding. Pitched natural slate roof to two-storey section with cast-iron rainwater goods. Pitched corrugated metal roof over single-storey section to the north. Walls are constructed in random rubble stone with failing lime render over. Square-headed window openings, now blocked. Segmental-headed carriage arch having timber sheeted door. Set back from road in extensive mature grounds to the northwest of the centre of Moate
