  Description

  Identified in centre-line testing (E4110) in advance of the M11 Gorey to Enniscorthy road scheme and set aside for resolution as Effernoge 2 (Hardy et al. 2010, 65). It is situated in the valley of a NE-SW stream, with a SE-NW section of the stream immediately to the S. It was excavated (E4234) by M. McNamara who uncovered a layer of burnt stone material (dims 8.8m x 5.4m; T 0.4m) that that extends outside the excavated area to the NW and NE. It overlay a rectangular, flat-bottom pit or trough (dims c. 2m N-S; 1.3m E-W; D 0.7m) filled with an alluvial deposit. A pit (0.9m x 0.6m; D 0.45m) 0.3m to the NE was filled with burnt stone material, and a possible fire-spot (dims 0.9m x 0.6m plus), represented by fire-reddened clay was just N of the trough. A curving section of a palaeochannel (Wth 1.9m plus; exposed L 5.4m) was explored at the S edge of the site. A sample from the pit produced a C14 date of Cal. BC 1007-846. The burnt mound (WX011-077----) is c. 270m directly to the ENE, although the stream loops to the S between the sites. • WX015-077 Burnt mound
  Description

  Identified in centre-line testing (E4110) in advance of the M11 Gorey to Enniscorthy road scheme and set aside for resolution as Effernoge 1 (Hardy et al. 2010, 58). It is situated in the valley of a NE-SW stream, with a N-S section of the stream immediately to the E. It was completely excavated (E4233) by M. McNamara who uncovered a layer of burnt stone material (dims 9.4m NE-SW; 8.53m NW-SE; T 0.16m), with a large area of oxidized subsoil (dims 2.1m x 2m) beneath, which is interpreted as a fire-spot involved in heating the stones. However, no trough was recorded in the excavated area. There was a section of a palaeochannel (Wth 5.5m; exposed L 16.3m) that curved around the W edge of the mound. The fulacht fia (WX011-076----) is c. 270m directly to the WSW, although the stream loops to the S between the sites. • WX015-084 Enclosure
  Description

  Situated on a slight rise in a low-lying area. The cropmark of a rectangular enclosure (int. dims c. 50m E-W; c. 30m N-S) is defined by wide fosses or moats (Wth c. 4-6m) is visible on Google Earth (28/06/2018; 14/07/2018), although much of the perimeter is absent at SE and at the W end of the N side. There is a large quarry (diam. c. 15m) at the centre with a drainage channel off to the ESE. The rectangular enclosure is within an oval enclosure (int. dims c. 90m E-W; c. 65m N-S) defined by a fosse or moat (Wth c. 3m at E to c. 8m at SW) which is only visible on the same images E-ESE and S-W, the perimeter being cut by field banks at other points, except the SE where there could be a rectangular enclosure attached.   Description

  Four-arch hump back road bridge over river, extant 1840. Part creeper- or ivy-covered walls centred on triangular cutwaters to piers having pyramidal capping with schist soldier course coping to parapets. Series of four segmental arches with lichen-spotted voussoirs. Sited spanning River Bann with unkempt grass banks to river.
