- WX006-030 Ringfort - rath
Description
Marked as a circular embanked enclosure (ext. diam. c. 70m) in woodland only on the 1940 ed. of the OS 6-inch map, and situated just off the S-facing crest at the E end of a W-E spur of Slievebaun. This is an oval enclosure (dims. 59m N–S; 49m E–W) within a coniferous forest defined by an earthen bank (Wth 2–3m; int. H 0.5m; ext. H 0.5–1m), with an external V-shaped fosse (Wth 2m; D 0.3m). There is no visible entrance. It is visible on the OSI series of aerial photographs (2005) where the trees have been removed and it is bisected by an E-W forestry road. It remains unplanted in the renewed forest (Bing images 2011). Rath (WX005-031----) is c. 200m to the E. - WX006-031 Ringfort - rath
Description
Marked as a rectangular wood on the 1839 and 1940 eds of the OS 6-inch map and situated on an E-facing slope off the E tip of a W-E spur of Slievebaun Hill. This is a square area with rounded corners or a subcircular area (dims. 52m NW-SE; 52m NE-SW) within a coniferous forest defined by an earthen bank (Wth 2-3m; H 0.4m) with an external fosse (Wth 2m; D below exterior 0.4m). There is no visible entrance, but two low banks (Wth 2.5m; H 0.2m) run through the interior parallel with the NW and SE sides and 8m distant from them. Rath (WX005-030----) is c. 200m to the W, and this site has been classified as a moated site (Barry 1977, 224, WX 87). Description
Detached three-bay two-storey country house, extant 1887, on a U-shaped plan with single-bay full-height advanced end bays. Occupied, 1901. Sold, 1907, to accommodate alternative use. Extended, 1908, producing present composition. Occupied, 1911. Closed, 1925. Sold, ----. Hipped slate roof on a U-shaped plan with roll moulded clay ridge tiles, rendered chamfered chimney stacks having corbelled stepped stringcourses below capping, and cast-iron rainwater goods on "Cavetto" cornice retaining cast-iron square profile downpipes. Part creeper- or ivy-covered tuck pointed coursed rubble stone walls on cut-granite chamfered cushion course on plinth with cut- or hammered granite flush quoins to corners. Square-headed window openings in tripartite arrangement including square-headed window openings in tripartite arrangement (first floor), timber mullions, and flush surrounds having thumbnail beaded reveals with hood mouldings framing timber casement windows. Set in landscaped grounds including terraces centred on flights of four steps.

Description
Farmyard complex, extant 1901, including: Detached five-bay single-storey coach house-cum-stable outbuilding with half-attic on a U-shaped plan with single-bay (two-bay deep) full-height projecting end bays. Now disused. Hipped slate roof on a U-shaped plan centred on gablets to window openings to half-attic with roll moulded clay ridge tiles, rendered red brick Running bond chimney stacks having corbelled stepped stringcourses below capping, and no rainwater goods surviving on box eaves. Part creeper- or ivy-covered fine roughcast walls with concealed flush quoins to corners. Square-headed door openings with rendered "bas-relief" surrounds framing remains of timber boarded doors. Square-headed window openings (half-attic) with rendered "bas-relief" surrounds framing remains of timber fittings. Paired segmental-headed carriageways (end bays) with rendered "bas-relief" surrounds. Set in grounds shared with Mount Saint Benedict.

Description
Detached two-bay single-storey gate lodge with dormer attic, occupied 1901, on a rectangular plan. Renovated, ----. Pitched slate with roll moulded terracotta ridge tiles centred on tuck pointed granite ashlar chimney stack having lichen-covered capping, perforated decorative timber bargeboards to gables on timber purlins with timber finials to apexes, and cast-iron rainwater goods on box eaves retaining cast-iron downpipes. Tuck pointed coursed or snecked rubble stone walls with margined cut-granite flush quoins to corners. Square-headed window openings in tripartite arrangement with cut-granite sills, and margined cut-granite block-and-start surrounds framing timber casement windows having lattice glazing bars. Set back from line of road at entrance to grounds of Mount Saint Benedict.

Gateway, extant 1901, on a symmetrical plan comprising pair of tuck pointed margined granite ashlar piers having pyramidal capping. Road fronted at entrance to grounds of Mount Saint Benedict.
