  Description

  Situated on level ground looking NW down a steep scarp to the Dargle River. Circular enclosure (diam. c. 30m) hachured on 1838 OS 6-inch map. Not visible at ground level. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wicklow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). Architectural heritage

• Charleville House, country house, 1790–1800 · Regional interest
  Description

  Detached nine-bay two-storey Palladian style mansion, built in 1797 to designs by Whitmore Davis, with three-storey pedimented breakfront. The walls are faced in ashlar with the ground floor level of the breakfront rusticated and the pediment carried on four engaged Ionic columns. The roof is hidden by a parapet. The entrance is topped with a pediment and the windows are a mixture of flat and semi-circular headed. The house is set within an extensive demesne.

• Charleville House, gate lodge, 1830–1850 · Regional interest
  Description

  Detached three-bay one and a half-storey gate lodge, built c.1840. The house is finished in render with some moulded dripstones. The front door is set within a projecting open gabled porch with pointed arched head. Window openings are flat-headed with mainly casement timber windows. To the north gable there is an oriel window to the ground floor. The roof is finished with chamfered natural slate with cast-iron rainwater goods; overhanging eaves have decorative bargeboards. The tall chimneystack is in brick. The lodge is slightly set back from a wide curved gate screen. The gates and railings are in decorative wrought-iron. Coach gates, pedestrian gates and side railings are all framed by square pillars with panelled rusticated granite blocks. The outer pillars are smaller.
