  Description

  Situated on level ground with a gentle slope immediately to the E. Oval area (dims. 42.5m N-S; 38.5m E-W) defined by a partly levelled earthen bank (Wth 7m; max. H 0.8m). No indication of an external fosse, entrance or internal features. As it lay on the route of the proposed Arklow bypass, Wicklow County Council commissioned a full archaeological excavation (Licence No. 96E0156) of the site. • WI041-013 Burnt pit
  Description

  This is the record for the burnt pit (Site N) excavated by Brendán Ó Riordáin (97E0083) on the Arklow bypass road scheme. The sub-circular pit (1.3m x 0.9m; depth 0.7m) contained burnt material and the surrounding clay was reddened by heat. The only find from the feature was one very thin flake of roughly worked flint.   This is the record for the spread of burnt mound material (Site O) excavated by Brendán Ó Riordáin (97E0083) on the Arklow bypass road scheme.
