  Description

  In pasture, on S-facing slope of E-W ridge, overlooking Sullane River. Depicted as hachured circular enclosure (diam. c. 30m) and named 'Cahereen' on 1842 OS 6-inch map. Site lies in corner of field to S of E-W roadway/field boundary. Earthen stone-faced field fence to E curving NE->SE may incorporate remains of original bank; low rise visible SE->NW.   Description

  In pasture, on S-facing slope. Depicted as hachured circular enclosure (diam. c. 30m) on 1842 OS 6-inch map; indicated by broken line enclosing circular area on 1904 and 1938 OS 6-inch map. On the OS 25-inch OS map is is name ‘Entrenchment (Site of)'. Levelled; bank survives as low rise (max. H 0.5m) enclosing a circular area (28.7m N-S; 26.9m E-W). Interior surface is uneven; there is a possible souterrain (CO070-050002-) in the S half: Lewis (1837, ii, 329)) mentions ‘a spacious subterranean cavern’ within ‘the remains of an encampment’. Archaeological monitoring taking place immediately W of the site did not uncover any material related to the monument (Dowd 2000).   Description

  In S half of ringfort (CO070-050001-). Marked ‘Cave’ on the OS 6-inch first edition map. Macroom Historical Society members recorded a narrow passage which had caved in (Southern Star, 1/5/1982). A ‘spacious subterranean cavern’ is also mentioned by Lewis (1837, vol. 2, 329) who noted that 'several pieces of iron and other metal, much corroded, and apparently portions of ancient military weapons, have frequently been found here; the entrance has been lately closed up, to prevent accidents to cattle'. The interior of the ringfort is uneven, otherwise no visible surface trace. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.   Description

  Lewis (1837, vol. 2, 329) described stone 'on the lands of Codrum....of clay-slate inserted into a wall on the roadside, with the following inscription still legible: D.E.O.C. 1686. H.F. Fecit., implying that Donald, Earl of Clancarty, caused it to be erected'. According to local information, stone buried c. 1989 when wall was demolished; area now gateway into new house. Appeared to have occupied roughly the same locationas stone named 'St Gobnet's Stone' (CO070-125----) on 1842 OS 6-inch map.   Description

  Detached T-plan seven-bay two-storey house, built c.1800, having central gable-fronted projecting bay and recent lean-to glass porch to front (west). Two-storey block, lean-to additions and extensions to rear (east). Hipped slate roof with rendered chimneystacks, eaves course and cast-iron rainwater goods. Rendered walls having render quoins, plinth and sill band to first floor of front elevation. Diminishing square-headed window openings with stone sills, having render surrounds to front elevation. Six-over-three pane timber sliding sash windows to first floor and six-over-six pane timber sliding sash windows to ground floor. Bipartite timber framed window first floor of projecting bay, having round-headed one-over-one pane timber sliding sash windows. Round-headed window opening with stone sill and pilastered render surround to ground floor of projecting bay, having bipartite timber framed window with one-over-one pane timber sliding sash windows, surmounted by spoked fanlight. Square-headed door opening within stone surround with chamfered corners to side (south) elevation of projecting bay, having timber panelled door and limestone step. Complex of single-storey outbuildings to rear of site. Pitched corrugated-steel roofs and rendered walls. Square-headed openings with fixed timber windows and timber battened doors. Rubble-stone walled garden to east of site having square-headed door opening set in segmental-headed raised surround. Four-bay single-storey gate lodge to south of site with gabled entrance bay. Hipped slate roof with rendered chimneystack, timber bargeboards to gable of entrance bay. Rendered walls. Pointed arch window openings with render sills and replacement timber casement windows. Square-headed door opening with render surround, timber battened door and limestone stepped approach. Square-profile dressed limestone gate piers with limestone wheel guards and wrought-iron gates to south-western entrance to site.
