  Description

  On crest of rocky eminence 200m from N shoreline of Bear Haven close to Minane island. When surveyed by Somerville in 1910, row consisted of four stones, aligned ENE-WSW, and 19ft in overall length. The "remains" of a fifth stone which had been removed from the row were visible in a fence otN. Stones averaged 11/2ft T; only stump of NE stone remained. Next stone, 4ft to SW, was c. 31/2ft L and stood 3ft 4ins H. Third stone, 1ft further to SW,was c. 61/2ft long and stood 3ft 6ins H. Stump of fourth stone, 1ft to the SW, was c. 41/2ft L.   Description

  In rough hill pasture, in cutaway bog. A partially grass-covered, circular cairn (diam. 5m; H 0.4m), consisting of mainly larger stones, features traces of kerbing along the NE-S arc. A depression in the W quadrant of the cairn suggests some disturbance in this area. A series of relict field boundaries (CO115-091002-) is situated to the N and S of the cairn.   Description

  In rough hill pasture, in cutaway bog, with a view over Berehaven Harbour, Bere Island and the surrounding mountain landscape. Turf-cutting has exposed the remains of relict stone field boundaries (T 0.5m; H 0.4m) in a general N-S direction on both sides of a cairn (CO115-091001-). These field boundaries cover an area measuring c. 120m N-S x c. 30m E-W. Many stones are set at right angles to the line of the wall. • CO115-094 Megalithic tomb - wedge tomb
  Description

  In rough pasture, with outcropping rock on the bog-covered SW-facing slopes overlooking Castletownbere and Berehaven Harbour. The lower portion of the outer element of the tomb is enveloped in peat. The wedge-shaped gallery (L 1.6m; Wth 0.72m at E end), aligned ENE-WSW, is closed at E by a backstone. The N side is represented by a single slab and the S side is formed by two uprights; the W of these leans markedly inwards. The gallery is partly covered by a roofstone (1.85m x 1.75m; T 0.15-0.2m) which has slipped forward over the collapsed S sidestone and slopes down to the SW blocking the W end of the monument. An inclined slab set immediately outside the S side near the backstone may be part of outer-walling. A standing stone (CO115-095----) is located 140m to the NE and a fulacht fia (CO115-096----) 180m to the SE. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.   Description

  In rough hill pasture, on a SW-facing slope overlooking Castletownbere and Berehaven Harbour. This standing stone (1.45m x 0.55m; H 1.4m) is diamond-shaped in plan and is orientated NE-SW.   Description

  In rough pasture covered with rushes, on a SW-facing slope. A large, gorse-covered, horseshoe-shaped mound (15.5m N-S; 10m E-W; H 1.1m) of heat-shattered stones and charcoal-enriched soil. The opening (Wth 4m) faces W towards a waterlogged area. A series of upright stones appear to form a revetment between the curving sides of the opening and the mound. • The Lighthouse Dwellings, lighthouse keeper's house, 1900–1920 · Regional interest
  Description

  Terrace of three two-bay two-storey former lighthouse keepers' houses, built c.1910, with flat roof porches to front (north-west) and rear (south-east) elevations. Now in use as coastguard station. Terrace flanked by flat-roofed single-bay single-storey blocks. Rendered parapet to roof with rendered chimneystacks, moulded eaves course and cast-iron service pipe and rainwater goods. Painted rendered walls with quoins, platband and plinth. Square-headed openings with uPVC windows, painted concrete sills and raised render surrounds. Square-headed openings to entrances with uPVC replacement doors.

• House, 1860–1900 · Regional interest
  Description

  Detached three-bay two-storey Tudor Gothic Revival style house, built c.1880, with projecting gable-ended bay (north). Single-bay single-storey lean-to extension to north elevation. Pitched artificial slate roof with decorative clay ridge tiles, rendered chimneystack, decorative timber bargeboards and cast-iron rainwater goods. Smooth rendered walls with render quoins and plinth. Square-headed tripartite openings to south elevation with six-over six timber sliding sash windows, flanked by two-over-two timber sliding sash windows with decorative render surrounds incorporating diamond pattern and rendered sills. Square-headed openings to south and west elevations and to south elevation of projecting gabled bay with four-over-four timber sliding sash windows and rendered sills. Square-headed door opening with uPVC door and render surround. Rendered boundary and gate piers to site.

• The Old Presbytery, house, 1820–1840 · Regional interest
  Description

  Detached L-plan three-bay two-storey house, built c.1830, altered c.1910, with addition of projecting two-storey box bays to front (south-west) elevation and with addition of wing to rear, now forming U-plan. Later lean-to porch to front elevation and extension to south-east. Pitched and hipped artificial slate roofs having rendered chimneystacks with cast-iron and uPVC rainwater goods. Painted rendered walls with render sill courses to front elevation with raised rendered plinth to base. Square-headed openings with one-over-one timber sliding sash windows and painted stone sills. Tripartite square-headed openings to front elevations of box bays with one-over-one timber sliding sash windows flanked by one-over-one timber sliding sash windows. Square-headed opening to entrance porch with sidelights, overlight and replacement timber panelled doors. Earlier timber panelled door with sidelights visible to interior. Timber panelled window shutters to interior.
