  Description

  In pasture, within SE corner of square field planted with trees. Arc (C c. 60m) formed by two earth and stone banks, survives SW->NNW; line of outer bank also survives in field to S as barely perceptible arc S->SW. Inner bank (int. H 0.35m; ext. H 0.9m) low and overgrown; outer bank (int. H 0.3m; ext. H 0.4m) lies c. 2.5m outside inner bank; rock out crop on line of bank to N where stone wall extends northwards from inner bank. Interior heavily overgrown; surface uneven and broken by rock out crop. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. • CO027-101 Castle - tower house
  Description

  On low hillock, overlooking surrounding flat land. All that survives is 2-storey garderobe tower which projected from N side of castle. North wall (L 2.9m) survives with return of E wall (L 4.4m) and W wall (L 3.2m); latter has short return to W at its broken end at 1st-floor level. Blocked arched opening at ground-floor level in N wall. At 1st-floor level blocked lintelled ope at E end of N wall and splayed ingoing of window at S end of E wall. Broken stonework on internal faces of E and W walls suggests presence of sloping garderobe shaft, probably exiting through arched opening at base of tower. Little known of history of site; not depicted on Down Survey (1655-6) barony map. Land grant of 1588 to Arthur Hyde included '...the castle and lands of Granagenaghe...'   Description

  In Killeen Wood. Depicted as hachured circular enclosure on 1842 OS 6-inch map. Circular area (32m WNW-ESE) defined by low undulation (int. H 0.2m) WNW->SSE with shallow external fosse (D 0.5m). Interior slopes gently down to S. Enclosure covered by dense undergrowth and trees; limestone quarry truncates SW side.   In pasture, on NE-facing slope. Roughly circular area (24m N-S) enclosed by low earthen bank (int. H 0.3m; ext. H 0.9m). Bank incorporated into field fence system ENE->W; higher than elsewhere and heavily overgrown; lower section stone faced. Bank levelled NNE->ENE.   Description

  Detached five-bay two-storey T-plan house, built c. 1850, having recent flat-roofed porch to front, and two-bay two-storey return to rear. Hipped slate roof with rendered chimneystacks, and having pitched slate roof to return with rendered chimneystack. Rendered walls. Square-headed window openings, front elevation having two-over-two pane timber sliding sash windows and rear elevation and return having replacement uPVC windows, all with limestone sills. Rubble limestone square-profile piers leading to farmyard. Detached five-bay two-storey outbuilding to south having pitched slate roof, rubble limestone walls, flight of limestone steps to west gable, square-headed openings with timber fittings to windows and timber battened doors. Detached seven-bay single-storey outbuilding to west having pitched slate roof, rubble limestone walls, square-headed openings with timber battened doors. Rendered boundary walls to rear with square-profile piers and double-leaf cast-iron gates. Three-bay single-storey former gate lodge to road entrance having gable-fronted entrance bay, flanked by recent flat-roofed additions, having pitched slate roof with rendered eaves course and rendered chimneystack, painted rendered walls with render plinth course, and square-headed openings with fixed timber glazed windows and rendered sills, and porch having half-glazed timber panelled door. Painted rendered square-profile piers with roughcast rendered panels, set to painted rendered walls with rendered copings terminating in second pair of piers.

  Description

  Detached three-bay two-storey L-plan house, built c. 1850, facing north-east and having four-bay side south-east elevation with verandah to full length, and having hipped canted-bay window to rear elevation. Hipped slate roof with rendered chimneystacks. Lean-to roof to verandah. Rendered walls. Square-headed two-over-two pane timber sash windows. Timber panelled entrance door set in triangular opening, with sidelights and having decorative gabled hood above. House approached by beech avenue. Entrance gateway comprises cut limestone square-proflie piers with moulded copings and plinths supporting double-leaf cast-iron vehicular gates, set in rendered quadrant walls with rendered outer piers with moulded caps and plinths. Four-bay single-storey gate lodge inside gates, having pitched slate roof, rendered walls and replacement uPVC fixtures to square-headed openings. Ruins of Garraunigerinagh Castle to north.

  Detached six-bay single-storey vernacular house, built c. 1800, having single-bay single-storey extension to rear and lower single-storey outbuilding attached to west. Pitched roof with corrugated-iron to rear and slate to front, having brick chimneystack. Flat roof to rear extension, pitched corrugated-iron roof to outbuilding. Painted roughcast rendered walls. Square-headed window openings with two-over-two pane timber sliding sash windows with timber lintels, painted stone sills, some with internal shutters. Square-headed door opening with timber battened door and half-door. Single-storey stone nd concrete-walled outbuildings to yard to front of house. Square-profile piers to road entrance, with rounded caps and double-leaf wrought-iron gates.

  Description

  Detached three-bay single-storey house, built c. 1890, having box-bay windows to end-bays, flanking recessed entrance, recent conservatory to north-west gable, and two-bay single-storey extension to rear. Hipped slate roof with cast-iron rainwater goods and rendered chimneystacks. Roof at front is catslide over overhanging eaves, supported on projecting bays and on chamfered square-profile timber columns to front corners, and having carved timber battens to each end. Flat roof to extension. Roughcast rendered walls with smooth render plinth course and smooth rendered entrance bay. Square-headed window openings with render sills. Box-bay windows have tripartite one-over-one pane timber sliding sash windows to front and fixed two-over-one pane windows to sides, with rendered sills. One-over-one pane timber sliding sash window to rear elevation and replacement uPVC elsewhere. Square-headed door opening with timber battened door having moulded render step to entrance. Rendered square-profile piers having rusticated stone-effect blocks and plinths, moulded caps and remains of ball finials, set to rendered wall with render coping and shorter intermediate smooth rendered piers with ball finials.
