  Description

  Two-storey gable-ended house to SE of road. NW elevation (roadside) of 5 bays, central rectangular door ope, modern windows and doors. SE elevation has irregular fenestration, small 1st floor windows just under eaves linked by brick string course. Photograph (Grove White 1905-25, vol. 3, opp. 320) shows house with thatched roof; thatch replaced with slate in 1954/55; chimneys on gables, projecting chimney on SW. Lower 2-storey addition to SW. Farm buildings to S. According to owner, built as dower house for Clogheen House (14878) probably in 1784 (ibid., 320). House shares piered entrance sweep with Kilmacoom House (built in 1911) c. 300m to ESE; carved stone lion atop pier, one of pair, 2nd on entrance to nearby Hazelwood.   Description

  In level pasture. Depicted as hachured roughly circular enclosure (diam. c. 80m) on 1842, 1905 and 1937 OS 6-inch maps; perimeter of interior planted with trees on 1842 OS 6-inch map. Levelled; circular area (87m E-W; 79m N-S) survives enclosed by low wide grass-covered earthen bank. Break (Wth 28m) in bank to E. Interior saucer-shaped; no internal features noted. Outside break and adjoining enclosure on E side is D-shaped annexe. Annexe (36m N-S; 35m E-W) survives as platform (H 0.45m) with barely perceptible external fosse.   Description

  In pasture. Depicted as hachured D-shaped enclosure (inner set of hachures form oval shape) at E side of irregularly shaped field, planted with trees, on 1842 OS 6-inch map; well at outer face of W bank has stream flowing from it, respecting S half of curved bank and continuing straight (E) beyond enclosure to join larger stream.   In wet pasture, on W side of stream. Depicted as hachured circular enclosure (diam. c. 40m) on 1842 OS 6-inch map. Levelled; circular area (32m N-S; 27m E-W) raised 0.4m above surrounding field level and enclosed by very shallow fosse. Townland boundary bisects interior on ENE-WSW axis; southern townland boundary of Kilmacoom curved to respect line of enclosure on 1842 OS 6-inch map. • Kilmacoom, gates/railings/walls, 1910–1915 · Regional interest
  Description

  Freestanding quadrant entrance gateway, erected 1911, comprising rubble limestone sweep walls with dressed limestone copings, and having square-profile dressed limestone inner and outer piers, with plinths, moulded string courses, cornices and caps, inner piers having carved lion finials and decorative double-leaf cast-iron gates. Cut-stone wheel guards to front of gateway.

• Kilmacoom, house, 1910–1915 · Regional interest
  Description

  Detached three-bay two-storey house, built 1911, with gabled end bays to façade, each having two-storey canted-bay windows, flanking rendered Doric-style portico, and two-storey canted-bay windows to east and west elevations. Three-bay two-storey lower block to west end of rear, with further lower two-bay two-storey block to rear of latter. Gable-fronted glazed timber glasshouse to west elevation. Slate roofs, pitched except for hipped rear-most addition, with timber bargeboards to front gables, cast-iron rainwater goods and rendered chimneystacks. Carved timber finial to glasshouse. Render cornices to bay windows. Rendered walls with render string courses dividing storeys and forming cornices and sill courses to windows of main block. Square-headed openings throughout, with one-over-one pane timber sliding sash windows, and having some two-over-two pane windows to additions, and with tripartite one-over-one pane window to middle of first floor. Segmental-headed entrance doorway with recent timber door, fanlight and sidelights, flanked by render engaged columns and approached by curved carved limestone steps with mosaic tiling. Portico has rendered columns with moulded bases on square-profile bases, supporting flat roof having render architrave with moulded frieze and cornice. Square-headed door openings to east and west elevations with timber panelled doors and overlights, that to east recessed with timber panelled reveals. Glasshouse has square-headed door opening with timber panelled half-glazed door.
