Description
In pasture, on steep S-facing slope. Roughly circular area (46m E-W; 38m N-S) enclosed by earthen bank (H 1.8m); external fosse (D 1.65m) SSW->SSE; natural scarp (H 6m) SSE->SSW, topped by modern stone wall. Gaps in bank to E (Wth 2.7m); SW (Wth 5m); and N (Wth 3m); latter with causeway, probably ancient. Interior slopes down to S; used as dump. Tradition of associated souterrain (CO122-006002-). On level patch of ground in rolling pasture. Three boulder burials set in form of triangle c. 1.5m apart. Boulder to NE (1.8m x 1.7m; T 0.9m) rests above four support stones. Subcircular slab to SW (diam. 2.4m; T 0.6m) rests above at least five support stones. Two support stones are visible beneath the cover stone (2m x 1.3m; T 0.65m) of NW monument. In pasture atop knoll; extensive view in all directions. Semicircular area (40m N-S; 24m E-W) of rough grazing; defined to W by N-S field fence; to E by scarped edge of knoll; divided in two by E-W field fence. At foot of scarp to NE large recumbent slab (H 1.05m 2.5m; 1.6m). In SE quadrant overgrown foundations (H 0.4m) of rectangular structure (8m NE-SW; 2.5m NW-SE); known locally as "Cillin a Turrais" (little church of the pilgrims) (CO122-101003-). Small cross slab in S portion near scarped edge. (CO122-101002-). Site known locally as "Keelnagarrane (Church of the graves)" (O'Donoghue 1986, 85). Description
In pasture, on a SE-facing slope in an area of rolling farmland. The remains of a circular hut site (diam. 5m) defined by a traces of wall (T 1m; H 0.6m) which consists of an inner and outer row of contiguous stone slabs (T 1m; H 0.6m) with an infill of smaller stones. Field-clearance rubble is piled intermittently on the wall and along the S arc. A burial ground (CO122-101001-) is c. 55m to the NNW.
