Description
Situated on Knockandinny on the N extremity of Saggart Hill. A circular cairn with a diam. 10m (Kilbride-Jones 1950, 315). Today the site is in the area of Hole 3 on the fairways of Slade Valley Golf Club. There are no visible remains of the site at ground level. Also the site of a ring-barrow (DU024-002002-). Description
Situated at Knockandinny, on the northern extremity of Saggart hill. A ring-barrow consisting of a raised circular platform, surrounded by a fosse with a low external bank. The platform (diam. c. 30m) had been built of small stones (Kilbride-Jones 1950, 314-15). Today, this is in the area of Hole 3 on Slade Valley Golf Course. Not visible at ground level (Healy 1975, 1-19). - DU024-005001 Megalithic tomb - passage tomb
Description
Situated on the N-facing slope of Saggart hill at a point known as Knockaniller. This is a chambered cairn, circular in form (diam. 13m; H c. 2m) defined by granite kerbstones (diam. 13m; H c. 2m). There is a quantity of quartz in the cairn collapse. An undifferentiated chamber extends NE-SW, narrowing at the N end (L 4m; Wth 1.7m). There are no roofing or sillstones visible. The covering mound has been truncated by a field boundary along the SW. There is furze cover over the S section of site (Kilbride-Jones, 1950, 314; Herity 1974, 256, Mount 1988, 16-17). This site lies to the NE of a passage tombs and a ring-barrow at Knockaniller (DU024-005002-, DU024-005003-).
