Description
Situated in an area of undulating grassland SE of the Dodder valley. Named on the 1843 OS 6-inch map as a roughly circular, hachured enclosure. The site was excavated in 1985 prior to motorway construction (Keeley 1985, 23). It comprised a truncated circular structure (int. diam. 24m) defined by a bank and external fosse. Excavations revealed a D-shaped wooden structure, a hearth and a series of pits and post-holes within the interior. Finds included a flint scraper and a possible loom weight. Detached three-bay two-storey house, rebuilt after fire in 1909, reputedly first built in 1588 for Bishop Adam Loftus. Roughcast rendered walls. Timber sash windows, wider to first floor and paired to ground floor outer bays. Central glazed timber door with segmental-arched radial fanlight above flat projecting bracketed timber hood. Pitched slate roof with gable chimney stacks. Large three-storey square-plan wing to rere, with further ancillary buildings in garden.

Description
Detached three-bay two-storey over basement house, c.1825. Full-height bow to east end. Smooth rendered walls. Timber sash windows. Timber panelled door with plain fanlight. Architrave surrounds to ground floor openings. Hipped slate roof, conical to bow end, with decorative ridge cresting. Unused gateway with cast-iron gates and rendered quadrant walls.

Detached five-bay two-storey country house, c.1860, renovated after fire in 1930. Rendered, ruled and lined walls with parallel granite quoins. Timber casement windows with architrave surrounds and granite sills. Window above porch has stained glass and relates to previous altar site in that room. Central projecting porch with carved granite front housing timber panelled door with sidelights and elaborate radial fanlight. Hipped slate roof with bracketed eaves and two central rendered chimney stacks. Ancillary farm buildings behind house.
