• GA084-065 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  In level pastureland. Subcircular rath (N-S 50m, E-W 48m), in fair condition, defined by a bank and external fosse. A gap (Wth 2.8m) at NE may be original. The td. boundary wall cuts the monument at N and S; to W of which no visible surface trace survives. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'.   Description

  In level pastureland. Poorly preserved subcircular cashel (38m N-S; 32m E-W) defined by two collapsed drystone walls which are partially obscured by field-clearance rubble. Within the interior are numerous low banks of earth and stone, which may be associated internal divisions. A possible house site (GA084-121001-) lies in NW quadrant. • GA084-122 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  On a gentle SW-facing slope in pastureland. Subcircular rath (56m NE-SW; 52m NW-SE), in fair condition, defined by two banks and an intervening fosse that are heavily overgrown with bracken and bushes. There is a causewayed entrance gap at SE. • GA084-123 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  On a S-facing slope in grassland. When visited in February 1984, this poorly preserved subcircular rath (52m NE-SW) was defined by a much-degraded and overgrown earthen bank and external fosse. Traces of a collapsed N-S running field wall were evident immediately outside the fosse at E and another E-W running field wall was visible outside it at N. The bank was best preserved from SW to W but from E to S most of it had been dug out. A causewayed entrance gap (Wth 5.2m) was evident at E. A possible souterrain (GA084-123001-) is associated. On a revisit in April 1991, it was noted that the bank had been partially bulldozed from S to SW and the resulting material was pushed into the fosse. • GA084-123001 Souterrain
  Description

  Within the NW quadrant of the rath GA084-123----. A shallow hollow (L 2.5m; Wth 1.6m; D 0.25m) is aligned NW-SE. • GA084-124 Fulacht fia
  Description

  On low-lying marshy ground. When visited by Cody (1989, 163, no. 23) in 1983, this fulacht fia consisted of a crescentic grassy mound of burnt stone (9m E-W; 7m N-S; H 0.5m max) opening to the S. To its S a shallow hollow-way may have marked the course of a dried-up stream. On inspection in 1984 disturbance had reduced the mound to no more than a scattering of burnt stone, charcoal and black earth. Other fulachta fia lie c. 80m to the SE (GA084-125----) and c. 110m to the SSE (GA084-129----). Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 27 November 2019

• GA084-125 Fulacht fia
  Description

  On marshy ground just to the W of a pond. This fulacht fia was described by Cody (1989, 163, no. 24) as an ill-defined partly grass-covered mound of burnt stone which was oval in plan (7m N-S; 4m E-W; H 0.5m). It was being eroded by livestock drinking at the adjacent pond. On inspection in 1984 the monument was almost completely levelled. Only a subrectangular area of burnt stone (7.2m N-S; 3.9m E-W; H 0.25m) partially covered by sod was visible. Two other fulachta fia (GA084-124---- and GA084-129----) lie c. 95m to the NW and c. 45m to the SW respectively. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 27 November 2019
